We stayed at the Movenpick 6th October hotel which we always come back to the Movenpick every time we visit Cairo. Great location, easy to get around Cairo by car/Uber, and not far from the pyramids of Giza, the new Grand Museum, Sheikh Zayed area and is opposite the Mall of Egypt. Lots of options for hotels to stay in and other shopping malls, restaurants and cafes close by. The only downfall of the area is that there aren’t really much options for public transport, I.e. buses or Metro. Although, there is a new metro extension being built that is coming to the Haram area, but I’m not sure if that also extends to 6th October and Sheikh Zayed.

Sheikh Zayed is a quiet, safe and relaxing area with plenty of shopping malls and restaurants, making it an excellent base for visiting the Grand Egyptian Museum and the Pyramids. The only downside is that it’s noticeably more expensive than many other parts of Cairo, but the comfort and convenience make it worthwhile.

The host did not respond to me, and never sent the address of the twin house accommodation, so we ended up paying money for nothing, it was really annoying and frustrating, especially because i was with my elderly parents, and one of them is in wheelchair. Honestly, it was one of the worst days I have ever had in twin house hosting.

Giza is incredible, for the Pyramids and the new Museum...

Giza is incredible, for the Pyramids and the new Museum which even just architecturally is on a par with any great museum in the world. The traffic is chaotic, and it is very difficult to walk around the city so a good taxi app is essential. Taxis are super cheap and you can cross from the West of Giza to the East of Cairo for about 3-5£. Be prepared to be accosted at every tourist site by pedlars, guides, taxi drivers, camel herders etc., and be prepared to be courteous but firm. If you are nervous around dogs be warned that across Egypt there are many, many stray dogs and these are on pretty much every street. Had no issues with aggressive dogs but best to be cautious. Obviously visit the Citadel with its mosques which range from 13th - 19th centuries. If you do go, remember that for men and particularly women if you wear shorts or t-shirt and have exposed skin you will not be granted entry. And, if you are on a romantic break remember that physical signs of affection, kissing and hugging, are likely to cause offence. And, definitely take a trip to the dessert, Wadi al Hitan is a good bet. With a good guide you can have some dune driving and see some less obviously tourist parts of the desert. If you go via Tunis you can stop off at the many local potteries in the town, which have been making ceramics for centuries. We travelled with our 5 year old, which for the most part was fine, but there is quite a lot of walking involved and some areas, like the old town (through Bab El Nasr gate etc) I would absolutely avoid with children. It is beyond chaos and you'll be trying to find a way out before long.

The location is lovely although the area is a bit sparse unless you like the typical fast food restaurants along the highway. There is not much to do in the community itself. The unit has a lot of potential but many of the listed amenities did not work. In my opinion the unit has not been attended to properly for some time and it shows. Dream Land is not particularly close to anything and is about one hour from Cairo and Giza. If you want peace and quiet this is the place for you. There are two swimming pools you can, but no chairs or lounges to sit in. Neither pool is particularly deep and the entry can be quite slippery and surprising. The nearby mosque is not overly loud, the market is a bit pricey, but is easy to access and has a lot of choices considering its size. And the power is not turned off for one hour as it is in Giza and Cairo.

Well I guess is either or, and I mean I was close to the pyramids, but far from the new Cairo and so you need to get a taxi or a tour to be able to visit most of the sites that Cairo has to offer, and also a good thing you are not so far from the new Museum, whish I believe is the biggest museum in the world, so enjoy it
