Tórshavn

One of 480 reviews:
"I spent 4 nights in the Faroes right before Christmas. I shopped and ate in Tórshavn twice in that time. Everything was beautifully decorated for Christmas (Saint Lucia Day) was the day I arrived. My two favorite spot in Tórshavn was the harbor. The people that work in the shops and restaurants are of typical Nordic culture. They are kind and helpful. This was my first time here, and I was there solo and I felt as if I was at home. I absolutely loved the dinner I had at The Tarv. I had an amazing Faroese meal of salmon, vegetables, and potatoes as well as a sea scallop starter. They have an amazing wine and beer list. Tórshavn is very walkable and you will find parking is decently easy to find. I highly recommend spending some time here even if you are in the Faroe Islands for hikes and adventures."

"A very nice village with a small port. Very close to the airport in a wonderful Fjord! I lived close to the ferry to Mykines, although I couldn´t make it that time. It´s just a short car drive to Gasadalur and the lakes. There is also a nice cafe in the center, close to the supermarket which is open from 8-22, 6 days a week. A perfect location to explore the beautiful islands!"

What a wonderful guesthouse! So beautiful and comfortable, with a cute cafe, an elegant dining room and a delightful owner! It’s a reason all by itself to visit Sandoy. I can’t say enough good things about it.

The style of the hotel and the room is really cozy. The room was clean and the breakfast was wonderful. It's what you need to start a day of hiking. Also there is a cliff in the village there where you can see the puffins from really close. We had a wonderful time!

Gorgeous town, with beautiful harbours, old houses with turf roofs, plenty of cafes and restaurants. The National Art Gallery was a short walk away, and the Old Cemetery was worth a visit. You could also catch ferries to nearby islands.

Sandavágur is a quiet village, and besides its beautiful church does not stand out too much. It is quite conveniently located, only 10 km from the airport. Options for eating out, or even grocery shopping are limited within the village, and require travel to neighbouring villages. The local fish restaurant is highly recommended! Some walking tracks are available, but it does not require a multi-day stay to visit the village and its immediate area. It is possible, but not ideal, to travel the Faroe Islands without a car.

A quiet, compact, and very convenient base for exploring Vágar, with spectacular tides, several hiking opportunities, the Mykines ferry nearby, 3 bus stops, and the airport only about 20 minutes away on foot. There is a small grocery store open daily from 8:00 to 22:00 (with two larger grocery stores in nearby Miðvágur, about 10 minutes away), two cafés, a handful of places to eat out, a public toilet at the ferry harbor, and a gas station. Despite being small, Sørvágur has everything needed for a comfortable stay while still feeling peaceful and relaxed.

Klaksvik is a great central point for exploring the northern islands (Kalsoy, Vidoy, Kunoy). Second largest city so has a few restaurants, super markets and stores. We took two days to explore the northern islands which worked well. Torshavn as well as Vagar island (airport, ferry to Mykines island and the Gasadalur area) are within a 90 minute drive.

Gjógv can easily be explorerd by foot.

Gjógv can easily be explorerd by foot. We especially loved the puffins on the cliff edge above the small harbour as well as the great views over to Kalsoy. The children played with makeshift rafts on the small stream in the village centre. Just above the harbour is a small café selling waffles. Try one with rhubarb jam!

Very nice area to walk around with a small but good selection of shops. It's easy to walk/hike to another village either via the road route or via Lake Toftir which is spectacular and something I would never get board of.

Not so easy to get around the islands by public bus - you always need to go via the capital, so day trips are tricky to organise. Vestmanna is a sweet, relaxing, genuine mid-sized "village" - the best thing to do is just walk, enjoy nature, make contact with people. It is relatively economical. The bird-cliffs are the main attraction (visit by boat).
