FAQs about hotels in Norfolk

A Rural Retreat for Royalty

Sleepy and agricultural, Norfolk has peaceful villages and deserted beaches that provide a relaxing country escape. Its riverside county town Norwich has historic buildings and a popular market dominated by a cathedral. It also houses several luxury Norfolk hotels on Booking.com.

East are the Norfolk Broads, tranquil waterways that pass by small villages, windmills and verdant countryside. Further east Great Yarmouth, with its Pleasure Beach, is one of the most popular Norfolk seaside resorts. Other beaches are at Cromer, whose pier has a theatre at the end, and Hunstanton, home to a Sea Life centre and a range of North Norfolk hotels. Between them are Wells-Next-the-Sea where wetlands continue to Blakeney, popular for birdwatching.

Also on the coast is Sheringham from where a steam train runs to inland Holt. Swaffham to the south-west is a small market town and surrounding it are some of the Norfolk country houses offering accommodation. Thetford to the south has a riverside park and is by Thetford Forest, site of a Go Ape high ropes course. Snetterton Racetrack is midway between there and Attleborough.

A speedway track is located in historic King’s Lynn, another market town whose wide river means that it also acts as a port. To the north-west Dersingham neighbours Sandringham, whose country house is a private residence of the Queen.

Norwich is a vibrant city with a rich medieval past: a beautiful cathedral and close, which you don't have to pay to get into and has free 1-hour guided tours. Other must places to visit are the Norman castle, numerous medieval churches, riverside walks and a huge array of independant shops and lots of locally brewed ales. Also don't miss the excellent city museum at the Bridewell and the Sainsbury's Centre at the university campus which has an excellent indoor and outdoor scupture exhibion as well as fascinating seasonal exhibitions. Norwich is also justly famous for its street food and independant restaurants. The city is clean, has large pedestrianized areas and an excellent bus service. Investigate the varied speciality guided walking tours available - I enjoyed a 2-hour 'Naughty Norwich Tour' for £5!

Great Yarmouth seafront had everything we needed for a short and local vacation. The town is grubby and run down. The free car show on Wednesday evening was a delight with great atmosphere. All restaurants that we visited met our expectations. We ate at the ginger restaurant on several occasions in the town as the food and service was impeccable.

Beaches lovely as always - check the tide times carefully for rockpooling, crabbing off the pier and beach days. the arcades are great for tweens and teens (and adults!) and there's a good little funfair for young kids. 'Windows' ice cream and Mary Jane's fish and chips are always a highlight. Town shops perfect for what you need. Plenty of easy parking at acceptable prices. It is a LONG walk up and down the cliffs... always go to the loos at the bottom before walking up to town so you don't have to double back! We do 20-30k steps in a day here, be prepared!

Beaches are great.

Beaches are great. The town itself has a relaxed holiday seaside feel. I found it expensive especially for food and drink, and the food in some of the places can be very hit and miss considering what you pay. Go to the Pie Man for great breakfasts and lunch. We enjoyed drinks at Bar Salt and watching the beautiful sunsets from there on the waters edge. All in all a lovely place especially for family holidays and for older couples, but can be costly.

Wells can be busy over the weekend, so if you like a quieter stay, try to stay in the week. Be warned that the walk to the beach is a long one! There is a bus that can take you there during the summer. Nearby Holkham is definitely worth visiting.

If you like the beach this is one of the best places in England. If you are a swimmer then it's perfect because the tide only goes in and out a small distance so you only have to walk out a few meters and you are in deep water. Brilliant if you don't want to walk out for miles to get a decent depth of water. The Beach is very sandy with loads of sun-trap sand dunes to explore. I love this part of the country, it's so flat you can see for miles and the wind is so exhilarating if you like that type of thing. All of this coast line past Hemsby, California and Winterton has a very good low-pollution level too. As a bonus you have all the magnificent Norfolk broads just a short trip in-land. Very highly recommended.

This was a really nice location with nice walks, a gentle stroll into the village to sample the eating places and the local people were extremely welcoming and friendly. This was ahaven of peace and tranquility and we really enjoyed the location. Tillys is a really nice place to eat, you need to look for an alley way called Emma's Court in between the shops. Good food, good company and an ideal place to stop for a relaxing place to rest.
