FAQs about hotels in Norwich

A Center of Commerce Through the Ages

Once an important medieval trading centre, Norwich remains a popular shopping destination. The Chapelfield centre is the newest addition, whereas a historic shop sells the city’s most famous export: Colman’s Mustard. Castle Mall is underground, in a hill topped with a keep, part of the 12th-century castle founded by William the Conqueror.

Dating to the same era is the large cobbled square housing a 6-day market. It was said that Norwich had a church for every week, and while that is no longer true, over 30 medieval churches still exist. The cathedral was built using stone from Normandy and boasts England’s 2nd largest cloisters and 2nd tallest spire.

Colourful medieval façades line Elm Hill and the Guildhall is another fine example of the period. Half-timbered Dragon Hall was a trading hall, while St Andrew’s and Blackfriars Halls constitute England’s most intact friary. The 14th-century Cow Tower sits by the River Wensum upstream from Pulls Ferry, the train station and Norwich City FC.

Reportedly, Norwich once had a pub for every day, and today’s traditional inns and modern bars are certainly popular with the student population. Other entertainment options include the Theatre Royal and Playhouse.

Norwich accommodation on Booking.com includes historic hotels with pools, city centre guest houses and riverside apartments, all near to Norwich Airport.

Norwich is a great city with beautiful surrounding countryside. You can enjoy both a wonderful city with a modern vibe and great architecture. You probably need a couple of days to fully explore and enjoy the city and then a few more days to explore the surrounding countryside. Well worth a visit even for just one day. So much to see and do for everyone, people who just want to look around, people who want good food and people who want to experience the pub culture. Great for shopping with the usual names and then the one off shops with that certain thing you needed. A very varied experience from the old churches and castle to the new modern life of the riverside. Lots to do and see for all ages.

There is easy access to shops, restaurants and pubs. There is a beautiful walk along the riverside. It is quick and easy to get to the countryside and the fens. There was relatively little traffic in the city centre itself. It was a lovely place with medieval architecture and steeped in history.

Norwich is fabulous - it has history and architecture, lots of both individual and chain shops and restaurants, and the vibe is really nice. As it's a double-university city, there are lots of young people around but also lots at the other end of the age spectrum. The pubs are great with so much quality food and local drinks - there feels like a real pride in Norfolk produce. Try eating at Yalm which is a collection of great quality small food outlets which means everyone can choose the type of food they fancy and all eat together. The undercover market is fantastic too. The castle and cathedral are a must visit - also the arcade. Cromer and Great Yarmouth are a short drive away. If you don't like hills, try and stay to the North of the city as it's easier to walk in to the town.

Norwich is a vibrant city with a rich medieval past: a beautiful cathedral and close, which you don't have to pay to get into and has free 1-hour guided tours. Other must places to visit are the Norman castle, numerous medieval churches, riverside walks and a huge array of independant shops and lots of locally brewed ales. Also don't miss the excellent city museum at the Bridewell and the Sainsbury's Centre at the university campus which has an excellent indoor and outdoor scupture exhibion as well as fascinating seasonal exhibitions. Norwich is also justly famous for its street food and independant restaurants. The city is clean, has large pedestrianized areas and an excellent bus service. Investigate the varied speciality guided walking tours available - I enjoyed a 2-hour 'Naughty Norwich Tour' for £5!

A real hidden gem of a city with a huge amount of history.

A real hidden gem of a city with a huge amount of history. The medieval cathedral alone is worth at least a morning. There's other stuff to see and a few pubs to have refreshments right on the river - and there are places to see live local bands in the centre. Never realised that the small city Norwich had so much to offer from Baroque to Rock - and from Gothic to Goths..

It feels like a happy, friendly city.

It feels like a happy, friendly city. The city centre is inviting, with plenty of trees and benches. There is some lovely architecture in the older buildings and the riverside area is pretty. Everything is within easy walking distance of the station. I really enjoyed a visit to Slice & Dice board game cafe. The staff there were lovely and they serve fabulous food! I was only there for a long overnight stay, but I will visit Norwich again for longer.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were spacious, comfortable and very clean. We treated my son (a Norwich City fan) to a pitch-side room - he loved it. The breakfast offering was excellent and there were vegetarian options which I really appreciated, as well as a little fridge with a variety of non-dairy milk available. The hotel is extremely well situated for the football at Carrow Road and only a short walking distance to shops/ restaurants/ the city centre. We would stay again without a doubt.

Foundry Cottage was an ideal haven of peace in Norwich. Close to the city centre, with parking, a real bonus. It was lovely to return to an evening in the cottage where there was a spacious living room. The bedroom was at the back and was also quiet. Can’t wait to come in summer to sit out in the lovely courtyard.

I had a wonderful stay at the Golden Triangle Townhouse! The location is brilliant for getting into Norwich city centre, and the property was spotlessly clean. It felt like a true 'home-from-home'—very comfortable and relaxing—all at a remarkably reasonable low cost. I'd definitely stay here again!
