Amalfi Coast Highlights

Conca Dei Marini

Home to the Emerald Grotto, sea-lovers can snorkel in the crystalline waters, while foodies can savour Sfogliatella, a sweet shell-shaped pastry from the Convent of Santa Rosa.

‘Painted Village’ of Furore

Small but full of character, this stunning hillside town gets its other moniker from the colourful open-air museum of murals lining its bougainvillea-lined streets.

Romantic Ravello

While Annunziata Historic Building hosts recitals, Villa Rufolo also delights with spectacular views and concerts in its gorgeous gardens.

Handcrafted goods from the Amalfi Coast

The Amalfi Coast is a home to unique artisan products. Positano is known for its linen beachwear, while Maiori is where you can shop for handmade Gladiator leathersandals.

Natural caves of Praiano

Set in natural caves, revellers can head to Africana Famous Club and admire the shimmering waters below. Extravagant live performance and lobster dinners are also on offer.

The ceramics trail of Vietri sul Mare

While colourful ceramics can be admired up and down the Amalfi Coast, the traditions of the master ceramist are a closely guarded secret in this picturesque coastal town.

The fishing village and anchovy paradise of Cetara

Experts at preserving anchovies, trattorias here are known for their fresh homemade pasta with fermented anchovy essence Colatura di Alici, topped with crunchy pumpkin.

Lemony pastries at Piazza Cantilena

Sal de Riso Patisserie is perfect for people watching with some chilled lemon mousse, a zesty lemon sorbet, or a generous slice of pear and ricotta cake.

Historic Piazza del Duomo

The grand staircase at 9th-century Amalfi Cathedral is a must-see. Sample chocolate-covered orange candy overlooking the bougainvillea terraces and turquoise waters.

Sunbathing along the Amalfi Coast

Crystal clear waters and endless stretches of golden sands run from Duoglio Beach in Amalfi to Cavallo Morto Beach in Maiori, while the hidden Laurito Beach near Positano is wonderfully secluded.

FAQs about hotels in Amalfi Coast

A Feast For the Eyes

Comprised of brightly coloured villages cascading down sheer cliffs, the Amalfi Coast is on the opposite side of a peninsula from Sorrento. Between the UNESCO World Heritage-listed villages are lemon groves and winding roads hugging the coastline that are definitely not for the nervous driver!

In wonderful Positano, delicately positioned houses somehow manage to cling to the cliffs. The next village along is Praiano, on a flatter piece of land and with a 12th-century church. Furore in the hills above a fjord has its own winery.

Amalfi itself is picturesque, as it rises from the harbour to the top of its 13th-century cathedral. As the coast’s largest town, it has a good selection of bars, restaurants and accommodation. Adjoining it is Atrani, a fishing village with a dramatic, beachside road supported by arches.

High above is Ravello whose Villa Rufolo’s landscaped gardens offer magnificent panoramas of the coastline below. Due to its position, this town boasts the Amalfi Coast hotels with the best views and, of course, prices to match. Back at sea level Minori and Maiori have the longest beaches.

Due of all this splendor, you might struggle to find cheap Amalfi Coast hotels, but there is also a selection of affordable apartments and B&Bs on Booking.com, and in any case the fantastic views makes the price well worth it.

Absolutely perfect location, the views are stunning, wonderful access to the ocean/sea and a great pool area too! We loved that they have three restaurant options as well as an exceptional breakfast buffet! The staff is some of the best we’ve ever encountered in our vacations over the years. Paolo, Teresa, Giuliana, Roberta, Johnny and Luigi are so friendly and helpful and made us feel so welcome and by the end of our stay we were hugging them goodbye! Thank you all for everything and memories that will last a lifetime❤️

The incredible service from the hosts and staff at the property, from start to finish, their kindness and friendliness was absolutely refreshing. The best place we stayed in our three weeks in Italy. The property is lovely, and the views are incredible, there is a lovely pool, access to swim in the ocean and a full restaurant serving very good food as well. Cannot say enough about Luigi and Luigi and the rest of the crew. Great location for Fiordo Di Furore. Nothing was too much. Highly recommend!

Great town.

Great town. The prettiest town on Amalfi Coast... more than Amalfi, Sorrento, or Salerno. It has ONE one way street into town... come all the way down the side of the mountain... there is the town. Many hotels on each side of street as you come into town. Any of them would be nice. The higher up you are on the mountain.. the longer your walk into town..... 400 steps from our hotel. I'd recommend trying to get something closer to town. The Ferry's are GREAT... take you to any town along the coast... Sorrento..Amalfi.. Salerno... even Naples. Way better than driving. Local bus takes you between towns also.. very cheap.. $3Euro each way. Driving is scary, and there is NO PARKING.. don't get a car.

Vietri sul Mare is beautiful.

Vietri sul Mare is beautiful. The town is just as nice as the more famous Amalfi Coast towns but far less crowded. Plenty of restaurants around the beach area. Go down to the end of the beach by the pier to get much cheaper beds. The town is a good climb up from the beach. You'll work up an appetite. Great selection of restaurants up in the town catering for all dietary needs. Streets are beautiful and authentic. Every wall tells a story in ceramics.

The holiday atmosphere during the Ravello Festival is delightful - an interesting programme and plenty to look at in the surroundings. Woodland walks, historic buildings, tourist boutiques - mainly ceramic artifacts, and plenty of restaurants, all in a relatively small area. Ravello is perched above Amalfi down on the coast - accessible by bus on a hair-raising descent of hairpin bends.

For a short impression of Minori, you could write:

For a short impression of Minori, you could write: Minori is an excellent place to stay on the Amalfi Coast. It is quieter and more authentic than Amalfi, while still offering easy access to all the main attractions. Maiori is only about a 15-minute walk away, and Amalfi can be reached in just 8 minutes by ferry or a short taxi ride. In our opinion, the restaurants in Minori are generally less touristy, offer better quality, and provide much better value for money than many of those in Amalfi. The town has a relaxed atmosphere, a pleasant beach, and all essential amenities within easy walking distance. For us, Minori was the perfect base for exploring the Amalfi Coast. This reads naturally as a traveler's impression and highlights the key advantages of staying in Minori.

Check the bus times as they are less frequent to Scala.

Check the bus times as they are less frequent to Scala. You need to download the app UnicoCampania as they don't accept cash on the bus. We had a car, but it is expensive to park in Amalfi and any of the nearby towns. You can only park in the blue bays and you have to buy a ticket from the machine. There is virtually no free parking in the local towns. Scala is close to Amalfi and Ravello, which are lovely places to visit.
