Excellent breakfast with an incredible view over the village of Sant'Andrea. We luxuriated in having the sun come over the hills just as we were taking in our first espresso of the day. The grounds are fabulous, with plenty of places to lay out in the sun or have a picnic with roses and cacti abound. The pool is pleasant and there are various relaxation spaces around the main building. Dinners are excellent as well, should you choose to partake. Great service and scrumptious food.

FAQs about hotels in Elba

Fit for an Emperor

With its lush, undulating landscape and secluded coves and beaches, Elba Island is a paradise waiting to be discovered. Ancient tribes named it Ilva, and its minerals have been prized since Greek times and used for Etruscan art. Romans enlarged their empire conquering the island, and a Grand Duke, some princes, Spain and France all claimed this piece of land.

Elba is most famous for having served as a forced exile site to Napoleon in 1814, and you can now visit his historic residence at Palazzina dei Mulini. The Castello del Volterraio, the Torre del Martello fortress and the Archaeological Museum are also places full of history that are worth a visit.

The island is well known for its beautiful beaches and crystalline waters. As well as summer villas and marinas, it is common to find luxury hotels on Elba Island that season after season are filled by Italians and foreign visitors wanting a more off-the-beaten-track summer destination.

Renowned since Romans times, the therapeutic muds at the thermal spa of San Giovanni are the perfect complement to the already wide variety offered by this oasis.

From urban B&Bs to luxurious beach resorts on Elba Island, Booking.com offers variety for every taste. Come and discover it!

Pool and beach were very nice, just consider this is not a sand beach, location is perfect as not too far from the ferry but ideal to start all excursions of the island. Free parking, staff was super nice and welcoming. It was also very nice that they changed scenery for breakfast and dinner. We had the dinner only one night, and it was also very good. Dogs were allowed and it felt all visitors enjoyed, families, couples, dog owners. What we specially liked was the garden. The outdoors area was nice and cleaned but the garden was absolutely beautiful with all flowers, olive trees and nice greenery.

An Elba Pass (bus pass)gives unlimited bus use for 1, 3 or 6...

An Elba Pass (bus pass)gives unlimited bus use for 1, 3 or 6 days and even if you have a car it gives you really good access to the island, stress-free and able to enjoy a few beers or glasses of wine! The Gourmet Food Court is great (wide selection of excellent food - I had the best Caesar salad of my life at the outlet that advertises itself as a pasta specialist(!). It is air conditioned superbly and underneath there is a shop that is one of those "we sell everything - and really cheap!" shops that is WELL worth a look (some great stuff in there). Do use the infoPark (Tourist Info) on the corner of Calata Italia and the bus station. They can give you a really good map and point out where the ATMs are (amongst other things, of course). For everyday stuff, I recommend the Coop Supermarket (InfoPark will point it out). Good range of stuff and good prices but don't expect to buy any over the counter medicines like aspirin or paracetamol like we do in England. Supermarkets don't stock it and you will have to try out your Italian at the Farmacia! I think you will love it.

We came here two years ago and spent 4 days after travelling...

We came here two years ago and spent 4 days after travelling for over 12 days through France and Italy by car from.the UK. Both times at the end of Season end of Sept early October. Not too hot but like a sensible English summertime. This time we were here a little longer, we flew into Florence and after a few days there hired a car and switched to "avoid motorways" on our sat nav, this took us to Siena through the Tuscany vineyards and stopping at the beautiful village of Castilla di Chianti we ventured on to and stopped in Siena, then onto Piombino port to get the 1 hour ferry to Elba Island. You can fly into Pisa and train to Piombino port in about 90 minutes. But driving through Tuscany was fantastic. This time on Elba we took our time, explored a little with the car, Marciana Marina 22 minutes north of Marina di Campo is a beautiful harbour town, my wife wanted to visit it a second time before we left the island. The coastal road has many villages and towns, but Marina di Campo has the best 1.8km beach. Poggio on top of the hill has a nice view out to sea as somewhere to stop for lunch. There is a warm welcome everywhere on this Island. We went on a 6hr fishing trip from Marina di Campo, which included, reeling in fish, a very lovely lunch with the other travellers and the crew, a swim off the boat in a secluded cove and some very lovely company. Basic, but worth every minute, we will both do this again for sure and we are not really into fishing. Car, scooters and cycle hire is available on the Island.

The village is pleasant, sports some nice boutiques, bars and restaurants (including a veggie one to my intense delight) and brimming with events in the summer evenings, although not all of them were to my liking. The sea promenade is very nice, the village center is nice but can be crowded at least in August. The surroundings offer not just some beautiful beaches that can be easily reached by car or, if you like a short hike, on foot, but also a lot of opportunities for hiking in the nature. In the harbour you can rent a boat or find day trips to Pianosa or to other locations around the island. If you're into nature, in the village you can find a whale watching association offering day trips for dolphin spotting, and another offering diving/snorkeling trips and kids laboratories on marine biology. The main cons of the location is that the main access road to the village is pretty busy at certain times (in particular around dinner time), at least in high season, this can be sometimes a real nuisance and in any case you want to take it into account if you have made plans for the evening.

The check-in & check-out times make no sense at all. The check-in is only at 16:00 and check out at 10:00am. I have never seen something like this before and found unbelievable. In the end they take 25% of a full day payment with this schedule. I have requested late checkout and thankfully they were able to accept. otherwise it would have been a huge inconvenient to fit within their non-sense timings.

Marciana is a small, fine town with an old, well-preserved building structure that lives from tourism but is careful not to overcrowd the town with tourists. This way it remains authentic. The people there are usually helpful and friendly. However, very few of them can speak English.

Everything in the facility was wonderful.

Everything in the facility was wonderful. The host however, speaks no English, so be prepared with your translator. She will text with you in English as she uses a translator. For those of faint heart, beware that Scalinata means staircase and the street is in fact a staircase. If your gps tells you, you have arrived, take the stairs, it isn't kidding. Anyone that stairs are difficult for, I would book elsewhere. There is designated parking at the top of the stairs, once you have arrived and spoken with the hostess. But you will have to haul your luggage up and down. We are both 70, and even though we managed, it was a bit taxing. Worth is for the accommodation in the end. But be forewarned. It is a great locations as the town is only a long staircase away and all the wee restaurants are within walking distance. It was an enchanting stay,

Great Italian town with lots of restaurants and cute shops. At night the city comes (even more) to life and the city center is filled with people. The little harbor is fun to walk through and if you walk a little further you can hike along the walls of a fortress (now a prison) and end up at a very nice pebble beach.
