"The hotel was fantastic, evening and more than my team expected! We loved the traditional clothing and meals, especially dinner. The breakfast for most Americans is a little rough. The hot springs were EPIC and the swimming was just right. Thank you"

"This stay was absolutely lovely! We were looking for a more traditional Japanese home in a smaller town - and this was it! I believe the owner said it was 130 years old but they've made great, modern renovations in the kitchen, bathrooms, and more. The beds were so comfortable (and heated). As for the owners, we've never stayed at a home with more hospitable and helpful hosts. We were interested in the history of everything in the the area. They gave us a tour of the home itself, took us on a walk to the beautiful stream across the street and the shrine a block up the road. Everything was picturesque. He even taught my son how to cook a Japanese treat from the garden. My children also thoroughly enjoyed playing with their children and the many Montessori-style toys in the home. It is also about a 10-15 minute drive to various stores. Very convenient. We couldn't have asked for a better experience and if we're ever back in the area, we would love to stay again!"

The location was great, you can practically see the hotel from the station. The fridge was stocked with water, beers and snacks which was very nice. The bedding was comfortable. The check-in and check-out were easy. Because all smaller rooms were booked, we stayed in a room with two bunk beds even though there were just two of us. The room was huge with a balcony; it would be perfect for a family.

We loved the Kaga Onsen region, and Ken was a wonderful host. He picked us up from the train station and drove us to the property. Since we only speak English and Ken speaks Japanese, he used a smartphone translator to communicate with us, which was incredibly helpful. We really enjoyed hearing him explain the town, the amenities, the room, and the food. The property is older and definitely shows its age, but it is meticulously maintained and that actually adds to its charm. It feels authentic and full of history rather than overly polished. We also loved sleeping on the futons on the floor, which made the experience feel even more traditional. Make sure to spend some time walking along the river and exploring the town. We found the whole area peaceful and deeply relaxing. The food pushed me a little outside my comfort zone in the best way possible, and everything was excellent. Our only “complaint” was the sheer amount of food. Come hungry because both dinner and breakfast are huge.

The Yamanaka Onsen Kagari Kisshotei was the perfect place to unwind after traveling Japan for almost 2 weeks. The location was beautiful and so serene, alongside the river. The staff was very friendly and went out of their way to help us enjoy our stay. When I forgot to notify them that our daughter was a vegetarian prior to arriving, they made sure to accommodate with her breakfast and dinner meals were just as delicious as ours. The food was a work of art and the it was a pleasure to relax in their onsens prior to returning home. I highly recommend staying here!

Great place to relax! The hotel is beautiful, with plenty of nature around. The onsens are open all day too, so you can always take a relaxing bath. Hotel also had convenient facilities such as a washing machine and a vending machine room, which is great given their isolated location. The food from the restaurant was great too!

Kaga appears ti be declining.

Kaga appears ti be declining. There ae some gems to be found like the museum of ice and snow. It is a great shame that the fountain in the lake has not been working for some time. I think that either the local authorities or a consortium of businesses need to tidy up the derelict properties and generally keep tidy the streets and lanes as is the case elsewhere in Japan

Komatsu is a nice place. Great view of the mountains.

Komatsu is a nice place. Great view of the mountains. Kind of a sleepy town. Other than the 'snack - men's bar' places near the station the town really does go to sleep early. Did not really eat anywhere interesting, super markets and conbini. Was there once for the child kabuki frestival. That cannot be beat!

An almost desert stretch of sea shore, at least in September. The beach is good both for swimming and surfing. There is also a couple of small nature reserves, including a bird-watching lake (to be visited preferably in winter when birds count in thousands, not dozens).

The main attraction at Kaga are the Onsen towns. Best to visit with a car. The towns are charming with lots of coffee and cake cafes and lacquerware shops. Not many places to get proper meals. Forest walk along the river is very pretty. This place is very quiet with very few people around.

Lovely small spa town.

Lovely small spa town. Delightful to walk on the path near the gorge - moss everywhere. The town has shops of wood products and lacquerware - a refreshing change from cookies and trinkets. Monday is when many restaurants are closed - so plan ahead if you are there that day.
