Staff were so helpful and friendly and they made our stay even better. They arranged a dolphin cruise with really good price for us. You made my birthday a day to remember. It was such a calm, relaxing holiday with beautiful scenery, insane sunsets and overall great experience.

It is a very compact city, and it is very easy to get to...
It is a very compact city, and it is very easy to get to from the airport. We stayed overnight because we were heading to a resort the next day. This was the right amount of time to explore and chill. We stumbled upon the Friday Mosque trying to find Meraki coffeehouse. Talk to the guides. They are very knowledgeable, and the mosque is free to enter at several times across the day. The gardens have some unusual flowers, and not only the tombs if Maldivian sultans but also the first president. Across the street is the President's residence. It's just a beautiful building. On the other side of the Mosque, you will also find the President's office. Meraki is a modern, rather hip coffeehouse serving an interesting range of coffee drinks - and they do some food. The Sultan's Park is a wonderful place to chill, and if you have children, to explore and play. Visit the fish market in the late afternoon. You will see lots of locals meeting here, as well as fishermen returning to harbour with their catches. Walk through the labyrinthine markets. If you're lucky, a seller may offer you some salty kipper to try. Finally, there's a dive shop along the front, where you can buy some more sophisticated souvenirs. If you choose the Samaan Grand, you'll get to hear the call to prayer from two mosques, one being the Blue Mosque, which is just a minute's walk away.

The city offers you an insight of the daily life of local. Currently the main road road works as the city is being upgraded. The local little beach snd park are delightful if you like observing daily life.

Male City reminded me of Hong Kong with its congestion, narrow streets, high rise buildings and busyness. The big difference is Male is a strong Muslim city and there is a total absence of alcohol, bars and nightclubs which for many Westerners will make it a very different experience. We were here for only 1 day, but it seemed to be relatively expensive compared to other Asian destinations. Food and accommodation costs seemed comparable with average Western destinations. Male City ids quite small so it is possible to see most of the city within a day simply by walking around. Where we stayed was opposite the Artificial Beach which was inviting enough but as we only saw fully clothed Muslim women swimming, we were reluctant to swim there.
