This hotel is cozy and comfortable, with a wonderful staff and excellent location. I stayed here five nights and I would have happily stayed longer. Everyone at the front desk was kind and helpful and accommodating, and it was so fun to walk out the door and be inside the medina walls. All in all, this is a really excellent value and I would absolutely stay here again!

I loved the old vibe of the hotel, the architecture and the theme. The rooms were spacious, clean and the AC works very well, comfortable sleep. I also liked the activities like water polo, the staff are also friendly, but because of the high number of people they're overloaded. They work without expecting tips, honest hard working people (except only 1 or 2 exceptions) unlike some that only work expecting tips and I'm happy to leave some tip in that case. The food is also good

We walk ed from our hotel along the beach to the downtown and the medina. The walk was lovely until we arrived near the downtown, when it deteriorated into city grime and litter. The medina was pleasant, the great mosque OK and the Ribat impressive. We found several fast food stalls to enjoy Tunisian light meals such as Chapati - recommended. Less impressive were the number of stray cats and dogs wandering around. We have toured Tunisia for several weeks and this is a common complaint. In the medina here, I was clawed by a cat when it got into a dispute with a stray dog. My view - destroy the lot of them. Also, beware a common scam - a local on the street claims to know you from your hotel and strikes up a conversation, then tries to guide you to preferred shops.

I liked that there is an old town and a more modern one. The people are all very friendly and, as a woman travelling on her own, I was alsways respected, well treated. There are beaches at Hammam-Sousse and along the coast. You find out which one you prefer. Taxis are not expensive. There are a sort of taxi-busses (louages) at a very modest price. You make them stop anywhere to get in and have them stop anywhere to get out again. From Hammam-Sousse many excursions are possible. I ate at the guest house, I recommend it. For communication a mobile phone with a translator from the internet is useful, if you are not fluent in the Arab language.

The level of rubbish, care-worn facilities, unkempt beaches made for a very disappointing vacation. Very little information or promotion of the heritage/antiquities at carthage, Bardo museum or in the medinas. The traditional souks appear to have been replaced by stalls selling cheap trainers, clothes, copy watches and handbags. The significant drop-off in tourism following the terrorist attacks a decade ago has been a major challenge.

Sousse, in general, is nice if you are looking for resort-type beaches and vibes; it is a bit shabby, and everywhere seems to be piles of rubbish and construction debris. The medina could use a deep clean to make it feel nicer. The people are friendly but very insistent, and most people (not shopkeepers) will go out of their way to help; it shows their kindness. If you are staying at a resort and have a bracelet attached, try to hide it when roaming around, as it attracts scammers and high-priced taxis. Police are everywhere you look and make us feel safe.
