"We enjoyed taking the Long House tour and the Cliff Palace tour. The Park Rangers were very informative and passionate about the Ancestral Puebloan people and preserving their heritage. I loved the ladders! The views are beautiful. The road is very curvy. You need to allow ample time to get to your destination. Be sure to stop at the Visitor Center/Gift Shop to view the exhibits. You may want to bring in a cooler with food because there are not many food options within the Park."

Mancos Inn staff was VERY accommodating and the room was lovely! It’s our go to in Mancos when we have the opportunity to spend the night. We can walk everywhere we want to go and feels like home. There are outdoor spaces to enjoy as well.

Cortez is an affordable gateway place to the treasure of the SWest. Easy access to Telluride, Durango, etc. Have been stopping here for the past 31+ years. Town is an interesting mix and is "real"--non-touristy, but w/many things to do and see in the immediate area. A real treasure is the Notah Dineh Trading Company and the Toh-Atin Gallery in nearby Durango. Road to Telluride is spectacular, however, the town is now overgrown. A beautiful area and Cortez gives you beautiful vistas only the high desert can offer.

Park was a beautiful place to be and learn. Tour guides were great. Lot to see. Just the surrounding area was lovely. Try to spend at least one to one and a-half days. More if lucky enough to have the time. The ride up there was almost worth the trip. We were going in around sun-set.

We came to Mancos to visit Mesa Verde National Park.

We came to Mancos to visit Mesa Verde National Park. We had an afternoon for sight-seeing and one morning to take 2 tours of the cliff dwellings. We got in one 2-hour hike and visited the museum and watched the informational movie. I would recommend spending more time in the area to take in more of the hiking trails available. Would also have liked time to stay late and view the stars in the dark conditions of the National Park with no light pollution. I would highly recommend a long stay at Mesa Verde National Park and the surrounding area.

Was not there to visit Cortez, it was what surrounds it.

Was not there to visit Cortez, it was what surrounds it. I did notice that there seemed to be little traffic in town making street crossing easy. I did notice that businesses openly charge extra for cc use. Is best to inquire for a good eating establishment.

Tours of Balcony House and Long House were really...

Tours of Balcony House and Long House were really interesting and fun. Being able to get "into" the sites and hear about the history and culture of those who lived there was fascinating. The condition of these places is really amazing given their age (800 - 900 years old).

A lovely little town - not yet spoiled by tourism like so...

A lovely little town - not yet spoiled by tourism like so many beautiful small towns. Very relaxing and laid back. Several art galleries, coffee shops and restaurants, and a nice bar with outside seating. I especially enjoyed the Maancos Gallery, with art by locals. Fahrenheit Coffee shop very good - excellent baked goods and coffee. The Mancos Inn exceeded our expectations!

Cortez is a nice place to spend time if you love mountain...

Cortez is a nice place to spend time if you love mountain biking and hiking. It has clean air and easy access to the Mesa Verde national park. I've done some wonderful mountain bike rides there over the years and it's also really close to Hovenweep National Monument, which is totally worth the trip and a wonderful, quiet place to camp.

The ranger tour of Cliff Palace was excellent.

The ranger tour of Cliff Palace was excellent. Our ranger Adam was very passionate and knowledgable about the park and really helped us to understand what life was like for the people who had occupied these dwellings. Overall these cliff dwellings are fascinating and it was very exciting to be able to see some of them up close and personal. Driving around the park was very easy and well signposted.
