The hostel is located a little outside of the city center which I really enjoyed. It was quiet. The kitchen area was huge and they offered free coffee. They also stored my luggage for a few days in between stays which was amazing! Rooms were clean, but a little dark, beds were comfy. The shared female room was very spacious and had a bathroom+ toilet. AC available.

Durango is an interesting place to live, work and play.

Durango is an interesting place to live, work and play. The homeless problem is a serious concern that the city should address as soon as they can. Finding may be an issue but there should be more people assigned to this project.

The cleanliness was wonderful.

The cleanliness was wonderful. The property needs A LOT of maintenance. The location was horrible unless you are a skier. 30 miles out of town was extremely disappointing. The stairs felt dangerous. Wet and slippery . The key pad never took less than 3 tries.

Beautiful small city.

Beautiful small city. Well maintained with a variety of restaurants and small very interesting shops all along the side streets. The Durango-Silverton rail road was a major plus. The RR travels through the San Juan National Forest inaccessible to anyone not hiking there. Gorgeous landscapes and mountains with a stop in an old mining town, Silverton. There is rafting and lots of hiking along with a miles long trail along the Animus river. It is near Mesa Verde, about 40 minutes away. Weather when we were there in late May was comfortable: 70's during the day and 40's during the night.

Once inside it was very nice.

Once inside it was very nice. Using the 12 digit number to enter was ridiculous and time consuming. It took at least 10 tries to get in. I called for help and got no response. Another family staying there had the same problem.

The big draw of Durango is the steam train ride.

The big draw of Durango is the steam train ride. It was OK, but if you're taller than 5'6" the seating will be very uncomfortable. The town itself is a tourist trap. Restaurants are average, prices high, and service poor. They know you came for the train, and won't be back. Colorado is a beautiful state, but there are better choices there.
