Loved the location to the beach and the quietness of the area. Sad to see the devastation from Hurricane Ian but the property itself was put back together very nicely.

Sanibel used to me more popular before the hurricane hit.

Sanibel used to me more popular before the hurricane hit. However, they are slowly coming back . I found the restaurants in the island a bit pricey for what they offer (The Bubbleroom, Thistle Lodge Restaurant, to name a few). Jerry's is a good place to buy groceries but a bit pricey too. Drive a bit more and visit Publix (Imagine how expensive Jerry's is, if Publix is a cheaper option!) Rosalitas was a great Mexican Restaurant. Great food and big portions.

We HATE the no-see-ums!!!

We HATE the no-see-ums!!! We were out before sunrise and for sunset most days. We tried the no-see-um spray and a spray for biting insects, but neither worked very well, and that was with long pants, long-sleeved shirts, and hoods up. FYI, we were on Captiva for 5 days before moving over to Sanibel, and there seemed to be far fewer biting insects and bites at Captiva. I was able to wear shorts and tank top while practicing yoga every morning and evening and got minimal bites there. I don't know what they do on Captiva to keep the bugs down, but Sanibel might want to ask their neighbor what they do. We enjoyed cruising around the island in a rented convertible. Lots of excellent restaurants to choose from, although our favorites were on Captiva. We're poor. This was our first vacation in 12 years. Sanibel seems to be the poor man's Captiva, but not as crowded and run down as Ft Myers. If I were going to do it again, I'd spend more time on Captiva and just visit Sanibel. And NOT worry about the cost. It's vacation. Vacation is no time to be worrying about strict budgets and cutting corners on enjoying the adventure.
