"as a local here, I will never tire myself of visiting this beautiful place. There is such a quaintness about the architecture and the scenic views of the harbour and sea are breathtakingly beautiful. You will find your peace here. The locals are friendly and the beaches unspoiled. Love it!"

We used Simonstown as our hub to travel around the Deep South on motorcycles. A number of great tourist attractions are in and around Simonstown. We visited the Johanna van der Merwe Submarine museum, which was excellent, the only submarine museum in Africa. Then the Boulders and the Africa penquins, the 'Just nuisance' story, Cape Point Nature reserve with the funicular going up to the lighthouse, Chapmans Peak, and not to forget the restaurants. We also enjoyed the nice roads and views on the motorcycles.

If you go to Kalkbay you must not miss a lunch or dinner at the Portuguese restaurant Beira Mar. I would give it 5 star for a real Taverna atmosphere and outstanding food. The prawns are the best I have ever eaten. The vibe of Kalbay is unique and we just loved it.

Noordhoek is a wonderful spot with a stunning white sandy beach surrounded by mountains. The sea is much colder this side than on the other side of the peninsula. Noordhoek LongBeach has a surf spot that is not a beginners wave. There is horse-riding on the beach at nearby Imhoff Farm. It feels very rural but there are plenty of facilities with a good range of restaurants, a few nice shops and live music nearby. There is a common which is very pleasant for strolling and picnics. The Cape Point Vineyard is also well worth a visit.

My time here was spoilt by other inconsiderate guests, but the House, the facilities and it's location was idyllic. The Carer of the house, Candice, did her best to try and make the stay enjoyable. She is very friendly, helpful and accommodating. Sadly, we can't always control the behavior of other guest. Scenery is just gorgeous, it is safe and secure, a little hideaway, yet also not too far from Longbeach and Sunvalley Mall if you need the shops, pharmacy etc.

All about penguins.

All about penguins. Definitely check out the paid option from Sanparks, but do not skip the public boardwalk and beaches. There are plenty of penguins and hyraxes there too, less crowded and open for sunrise and sunsets. For photographers, one could get down low on the beach, something not possible at the Sanparks boardwalks. The drive to Simonstad is a bit tedious. since you have to go through the heavy traffic of the other towns en route. After 5 pm, Simonstad is empty and plenty of place to park for your dining. Also a very nice venture point for tours around the area, like Cape Point or Chapman's Peak.
