Our stay at The Gem Hotel and Restaurant in Stansted Mountfitchet was excellent from start to finish. Patrick, Sadie, Charlotte, Trinity, and Frank were exceptionally kind, attentive, and professional, offering a warm and welcoming atmosphere throughout our visit. The food was outstanding, beautifully prepared and full of flavour, making every meal a pleasure. The hotel itself is tastefully decorated, combining elegance with comfort. Our room was beautifully appointed, immaculately maintained, and clearly furnished with great care and attention to detail. Its location is ideal for travellers, being conveniently close to Stansted Airport while still enjoying the charm and tranquillity of the surrounding area. The setting is equally delightful, with a lovely dining room and a beautiful outdoor garden terrace that provides the perfect place to relax and unwind. We would highly recommend The Gem to anyone looking for exceptional hospitality, wonderful food, and a comfortable stay near Stansted.

Upon reading some of the reviews, I was quite skeptical to book the room, especially as I was traveling with a 5 year old kid. But for 44 pounds, I thought we could try it and if we didn’t like it, we could just get to another hotel. The hotel met my expectation just fine. The check-in process was a breeze. The lady who checks you in is very kind and understanding (unlike some of the bad reviews). She gave us a room with 3 beds as I had a child with me; we chatted a little bit and she was definitely the HIGHLIGHT of our stay. She has been with the hotel for a decade and is an extremely kind and knowledgeable manager. The hotel and the rooms are old but very clean. The linen, the towels and the room was spotless. We had hot water; a kettle with tea and coffee. Plugs are not in perfect places but keep in mind its an old building. The location is right in town center; 5 mins walk to a Waitrose and 10mins walk to the train station. I had absolutely nothing to complain about. Keep your expectations aligned with the reality that it’s an old hotel and you will be fine.

It was very convenient to have self-checkin at a location so close to the airport. The hosts were easy to contact, and they did their best to make our stay pleasant.

Beautiful property, very peaceful location.

It is a wonderful little place to stay. It is very special with all the cars around that you can have a look at. Amazing to think the owners made all of it themselves. The breakfast area is so much fun! I wish I could have stayed longer.

the host Andrew was really friendly, the room was really comfortable, the neighborhood seemed nice, the walking distance to city area was good, so all and all, it was a really nice experience.

I had a truly wonderful experience. I felt like I was in the home of a close friend, almost like a family friend’s place. Paul welcomed me in such an elegant way, wearing his kind smile, hat, and suit. Everything he prepared was of high quality and thoughtfully arranged. Even before I arrived, he asked what kind of muffin I preferred—such a small but meaningful detail that really impressed me. And when I arrived, I saw even more care and attention in every corner of the home. The house was exceptionally clean. The bathroom was spotless and fully equipped with everything I might need, including shampoo and body lotion. The bed was extremely comfortable—I slept very well. I am quite sensitive to smells, but there was absolutely no unpleasant odor anywhere; everything felt fresh and perfectly clean. Paul was incredibly helpful throughout my stay. One moment I especially appreciated was when I had difficulty recognizing the house after arriving by taxi. Even though it wasn’t necessary, Paul stayed on the phone and kindly helped guide the driver and me until I felt comfortable. His support in that moment meant a lot. In some cultures, renting a private home can feel unfamiliar at first. But if you are open to stepping outside of those thoughts, renting Paul’s second home through Booking becomes a truly special and reassuring experience. I especially recommend this place to solo female travelers. Paul is a true gentleman and an exceptional host. I only wish there were a score higher than 10—I would gladly give it.

Warm, welcoming hostess and she helped with my luggage, as there were a few steps in this lovely old building. Clean, comfortable single room. Glorious roses in the garden and I parked easily. 10-15 mins from Stansted so ideal for an early start.

Comfortable and it felt safe. Property as advertised with the pictures accurately portraying the property. The owner was very receptive. I would definitely stay again.

Great location, fully equipped. I loved the tea and coffee being there. Grocery store next door was great. Key pick up very easy,
