Self-Catering Accommodations in Kinugasa

Whole house was very spacious and welcoming, nice place for weary travelers to stay at after a long day. Host was very nice and left us welcome snacks at the table.

The hosts were super friendly, the food was delicious and the experience of staying in a traditional ryokan was incredible. The bonus of a private tour to the bamboo forest was unexpected and greatly appreciated!

My stay in Kyoto had a really relaxed, hostel-style vibe that made it easy to settle in. The place had a social, welcoming atmosphere—simple, clean, and perfect if you’re just looking for a comfortable base while exploring the city. One thing that stood out was how helpful the staff were. There was a lady there who went out of her way to help me when I needed directions. Instead of just explaining, she took the time to guide me and made sure I understood everything clearly. That kind of genuine kindness made a big difference in my experience. Overall, it felt less like just a place to sleep and more like a friendly environment where people actually care. Great option if you want something affordable, social, and welcoming in Kyoto.

It’s a very beautiful house that immerses you in residential life in Kyoto! The manager is so kind, helpful, and easy to contact if you have any issues or questions. There are clear instructions around the house written in Japanese and English, so everything is easy to use. The house is located 1 block away from a bus stop, so it’s easy to access. I booked the property because of its location since it was most convenient to what I am doing, but I understand some guests may not like the distance from the inner city. It is not too close to the downtown area, however it is still very close to bus stops, convenience stores, restaurants, and a shopping mall! It’s about a 10/15-minute bus ride to downtown, which was not bad at all, especially considering the proximity to the Taishogun bus stop.

The house met all our needs. The neighborhood is lovely within walking distance of Kinkakuji. There is a bakery on the corner and a grocery coop around the corner. Several restaurants are close by. We were visiting our son who lives nearby and we were happy to find accommodations in this part of town. The owner was helpful and I appreciated that he stopped by to meet us and to refresh towels. Would stay again!

The house was spacious and clean. I liked that the house was within walking distance from the Nakai station.

It was amazing staying in an authentic Japanese house with tatami floors and futon beds. So fun!

Quiet, clean and well-equipped room. Size is great for 1 person. Very kind and attentive hosts. Excellent service - I had difficulties clothing my door lock, they changed it as soon as I asked for. I would definitely return, thank you for a great time!

I’m so glad I came across this house. It’s giving traditional Japanese house vibes and it’s located in a niche local area. The street the house is on looks like something you’d see in a Japan documentary and the entrance to the house is mad impressive. They have a huge tatami room right when you walk in and it’s lowkey giving tea room/ museum vibes so if you like that historical traditional feel you’ll love it. The living room is just gorgeous and has this cool Italian lamp that gives of warm light in the night and during the day you can just enjoy the vibes of the cute Japanese garden. And the living room also has a sky roof light which provides nice natural light. And when you go upstairs the beds are so cute and the room is super vibey. Ofcourse the bathrooms are solid af with a bidet ofcourse and surprising an automatic bathtub which was new to me. And the owner is so chill, they explained everything to me about the house and how to use things and also gave good recommendations of what to do near the area. She even offers guided tours of Kyoto and talks about the history and culture which I definetly signed up for cuz why not. And I def don’t regret it cuz there’s so much nuance in the history and culture people would never find even if they read books. She also made some good food reccomendations. Right down the road is probably the best yakitori restaurant I’ve been to in Japan and it’s super chill with cool posters about music festivals and local bands. Additionally there’s a huge magnificent shrine nearby with a cafe right next to it. I’d highkey come here again, and would recommend to anyone who wants a quaint, local, and authentic experience of Kyoto.

This was our favorite place to stay within our two week vacation to Japan. This is a traditional Japanese house with an amazing garden right in the middle of it. We had more than enough room for our family of six with easy access to public transit, supermarkets, lots of shops and attractions. You will be sad to leave this place.

Host was lovely, the home was clean and comfortable especially the beds.
