The hotel felt very warm and the onsens are completely amazing! The rooms are big and the bed was very comfortable. At night, most of the stores and restaurants are closed or fully booked so make sure to reserve a sit in advance. The area in the morning is wonderful and was not crowded at all. We really enjoyed it and we would be glad to visit again in the future.

The staff were incredibly kind and welcoming, our waitress for our dinner was very fun to converse with, along with everyone else we spoke with. The dinner was very well made, the facilities were beautiful, and our rooms were everything we could’ve asked for. The location is also excellent in the middle of everything, allowing for an easy walk around Kurokawa.

The staff was extremely helpful, parking our car for us and helping us navigate. The cave onsen was stunning, as the cave was much larger than I expected and very interesting, and the water was very relaxing. The food was also incredible!

Gorgeous traditional ryokan, with beautifully appointed rooms—we had one of the en-suite onsen baths, and I highly recommend it! The dinners and breakfasts were sumptuous and almost too much food, all very delicious. The staff is friendly, impeccable, and very helpful. The area itself is also lovely, with plenty of shops and nearby onsens to explore.

Our family (2 adults and 3 children) had an absolutely amazing stay at Yamabiko Ryokan. The setting is simply beautiful, right alongside a river and surrounded by nature. The location is perfect—you truly feel immersed in the natural environment from the moment you arrive. The hospitality was second to none. We were provided with traditional yukata, and the staff carefully made sure each family member received the right fit. One team member took the time to provide detailed guidance about how the ryokan operates and everything we needed to know during our stay. It was obvious that he genuinely cared about making our experience special. Every staff member we met was exceptionally kind, welcoming, and professional. Our room was spacious and comfortable, with plenty of space for our family. We chose the dinner and breakfast option, and both meals exceeded our expectations. The food was generous, beautifully presented, and featured a wide variety of traditional Japanese dishes prepared with fresh, high-quality ingredients. The entire property is stunning and impeccably maintained. You can see the attention to detail everywhere, from the gardens to the common areas and the baths. One of the highlights was the collection of onsen baths. There are several to choose from, including fully open-air baths, semi-open-air baths, and indoor baths. Each offers a unique and relaxing experience. Kurokawa Onsen village itself is wonderful, with many ryokans and baths to explore. However, we never felt the need to visit other onsens because the facilities at Yamabiko Ryokan were so outstanding. Overall, Yamabiko Ryokan offers a truly unique experience. It combines beautiful natural surroundings, exceptional hospitality, outstanding food, and fantastic onsen facilities. If you're looking for a place to relax, reconnect with nature, and experience traditional Japanese hospitality at its finest, I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Absolutely lovely! We regret only staying 1 night. The staff picked us up from the bus stop and brought us there on departure day. Overall they were super helpful with everything and English is no problem. We had breakfast and dinner and both were delicious. The baths were clean and the location was amazing. I was a bit nervous about the mixed outside bath but there is a Women only time. You can also go Onsen touring around the other Hotels and enjoy different baths.

* excellent location, in a quiet part of the onsen town between a lot of trees * open-air baths were very spacious and opened up to a small river * indoor bath was easy to use * kaiseki menus were quite delicious even for western tastes * we liked the indoor decorations of the room and the tatami area was convenient, it didn’t extend to the whole room
