this is a magical place. The place is actually better than the photos. The house is right on the walkway between Migome and Tsumago. The owners are such beautiful people and they will drive you wherever you need to get to for free. Truly the highlight of our Japan holiday. We highly highly recommend this place.

The Sakanomichi is a gem. My daughter and I stayed here for 3 nights in February. Ken san and Yuki san were delightful. The property was very clean and comfortable. They renovated the inn themselves and you can see care and attention in every detail from materials used to decor. The food was delicious and much of it was grown (rice) or made (plum wine) by Ken or Yuki. They provided great recommendations for restaurants and side trips. They ensured we were prepared with all the details required to ensure we had successful adventures. We are so lucky to have we picked the Sakonomichi. It was sugoi!!!

We had an amazing stay here! The house itself is beautiful and incredibly inspiring, with so much attention to detail. The vinyl collection was such a special touch and made the whole experience even more unique. Wonderful stay. Mika, the owner, was very friendly, helpful and responsive. She helped me to secure a wonderful vegetarian dinner when I arrived in Magome. Mika’s home is lovingly restored, cozy, clean and comfortable. Despite having to share bathroom, all of the common facilities are kept clean and tidy. I highly recommend Mika’s place for anyone coming to Magome.

Assi was a very nice host, and the house was amazing! We were lucky to stay over when we were the only guests, and it remains the best accommodation of our Japan trip. Futons are comfortable, the garden is very pretty, there are many cool and interesting things around the house (for example, some stamps and paper), it is clean and overall very cosy.

We adored our stay in Magome. This is a traditional inn which made this not just an accommodation but an experience. From the slippers to the futons, everything felt extremely authentic. And then there’s the food - our kaiseki dinner and breakfast were some of the best food we ate in Japan.

That was probably the most authentic accommodation I have stayed in Japan. Jeng manages everything very swiftly. Dinner and breakfast are paid additionally but boy is it worth it! I loved the ambience of the guesthouse. It's charming and very traditional. You sleep on a futon. There is a shared bathroom but I had no problem with availability. I loved the view from my room. Thanks a lot for the great stay Jeng!

Magome Chaya was the perfect place to stay as we walked the Nakasendo Trail. We walked from Nagiso to Magome and found Magome Chaya easily using Google Maps (but would have found it without Google as it's right on the main street!) Simple but clean accommodation, friendly staff and amazing food. We booked two rooms- one for myself and my husband and the other for our 3 children. The rooms were next to each other as requested and we all had a great stay.

The hotel had a very calming and natural presence! No shoes inside, easy access to amenities, and great staff. They advertised no English but the staff were happy to try/work with us on communicating all needs so the language barrier was never an issue. Great accommodations and shower!

Thoroughly enjoyed our 2 night stay. The place is in a beautiful location up a steep road but it's not too far.. Conveniently located for the walk. The accommodation is typical Japanese with futon beds which were comfortable. The shared bathrooms were. Immaculately clean. Take advantage of the dinner and breakfast packages as places close up early here, plus the food is delicious and plentiful. Jane the receptionist.is delightful and speaks perfect English.
