Super friendly hosts.
Super friendly hosts. They couldn't do enough for us, even though we'd interupted their evening with a last minute booking. We were provided with watermelon and local cheese to refresh us after a long night and the apartment was really lovely with some unique and sea-side type features. There is a lovely big garden, free wifi and air-con. There is a cafe and bar near-by. Perfectly situated for the airport. Everything we needed to make our stay comfortable.

Karteros is a convenient location, especially because it’s close to the airport. The beach has some organized areas with sunbeds, but it gets very busy during the summer peak season, particularly on Sundays when many locals also head to the beaches. The sunbeds tend to get taken quickly, so if you miss out, you can still relax on the sand—but bringing your own umbrella is a good idea for some shade.

We'd have liked more time.
Avoid beaches with resorts that are so exclusive & exploitative that have resulted in local tavern out of business. We would not have eaten at this resort, even if allowed (members only). Avoid Arina beach resort.
Nice place to swim with locals & bring a picnic with you when going to beach...just in case!

This is wonderful destination and a great base for exploring Crete. There i so much to see and do. We loved visiting Archeological and Natural Museum, Palace of knossos, both of which are easy to reach by public bus. Heraklion offers a perfect mix of history, culture, beaches and delicious food. Very tourist-friendly.

Very central location with easy access to the center of Heraklion (approx. 5-10 min walk). Very accessible also to the free municipal parking (10 minutes). In addition, be careful of parking right near the stay, there is no parking allowed, so there is a risk of a ticket. You also have a bus station 1 min walk from the entrance door.
The neighborhood is very safe at night, no problems whatsoever.

Wonderfully clean and tidy rent, felt like home. Note the location is down a one-way side-street which satnav didn't cope with, but we found it! Ideal for both airport and Knossos.
The booking.com web site crashes when I try to review the actual rentakl location :(

Very clean and well equipped apartment. The location is fine, very close to the airport. Very close to the bus station. The host was very responsive, the communication was smooth. I really enjoyed the stay and i would have loved to stay longer. I recommend this appartment.

We were initially reluctant about the close distance between the airport and the hotel (due to the low planes) but not only were the planes quite a joy to see but it also gave us more time on our holiday and less time faffing about with transfers. The hotel itself was beautiful and all facilities were immaculate and well thought through. The choice of food and drink throughout our stay was wonderful and varied from one meal/day to the next. The staff were all highly professional, friendly and accommodating and we couldn’t have asked for more other than an extra week! We would highly recommend and would love to come again!

The people are very friendly and most speak or can communicate in several European languages.
The city is clean (no litter !!) and the food a and drink is excellent
Culturally - this is superb - if ancient history and tall tales of greek mythology are of interest - the museums are well laid out and tourist groups "directed"
One significant and pleasant item is that if you are an EU resident and 65 plus you get reduced entry fees into the national museums and attractions ( ID needed)

Heraklion is a student's town with lots of tavernas, cafés and bars. In the city centre there is a lot so see (museums, exhibitions, specialized shops, singers, great tavernas, etc.). It's the heart of Crete and definitely worth visiting.
