Ikuko and Michael's place was sparkling clean, spacious and comfortable! They have a wonderful tea corner with a generous selection of teas, teapots and cups for guests to use. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay, as well as the tour Michael gave (which included lunch at one of his favorite local restaurants—it was absolutely delicious!). They went above and beyond to make my stay enjoyable and comfortable. I’m already looking forward to coming back!

Osugi-ya is a 150yo renovated traditional Japanese house in a residential neighborhood in Wazuka, overlooking local farmland and tea fields up in the mountains. The house has several tatami floor/futon guest rooms, and two shower rooms (one more modern, the other more 70's Japanese bathstyle). They serve traditional breakfast and optional omakase dinner (which I would highly recommend!) and offer varying tea tours and tea experiences. Kazu and Ken are amazing hosts, who both speak English as well as Japanese. They took time to explain various things and it felt like we were part of a family rather than just guests. My trip occurred when Wazuka was having its annual tea festival, where I got to sample tea, food, and wares from local businesses, hand process tea leaves, and watch an extraordinary fireworks show. With Wazuka being one of the main tea growers/suppliers for Uji tea, this is a great place if you're on a Japanese tea pilgrimage to experience traditional country living with amazing nature views while supporting local tea farmers and local businesses! Did I forget to mention that Osugi-ya also sells local single cultivar teas from tea farmers in Wazuka and that they will ply you with multiple cups of tea during your meals? Enjoy!

This was hands down one of the highlights of our trip. Yukie and Kevin are exceptional hosts that went above and beyond to make this a really memorable stay. Together with their lovely cats they really make it feel like you're at home. They drove us from and to the train station, provided interesting trip ideas and even gave a caligraphy lesson. The breakfasts were amazing and each dinner was full of great food and laughter. The futon beds were very comfortable and the room very clean. Thanks once again for an amazing stay, we wish we could have stayed longer.

This villa was lovely! We actually said- can we live here? The bed was wonderful. The spare room with the giant tv was a huge perk. The bathroom was gorgeous with a giant tub. They left soaps and all the amenities we might need and more. About a 8 minute walk from Nara station with luggage. Just a really lovely stay.

Amazing little place! Exceeded my expectations and was gutted we were only here for the night. Brilliant location in Nara - close to both stations. The facilities were really good with a washing machine and drying rack. The bathroom was a lovely size. The place was perfect for us and our son. Loved the pyjamas!
