Everything was good and pleasant, and these two were especially wonderful – the stunning view from the cabin’s veranda and bathroom, and the kindness of the family running the place, who gave us helpful advices for the rest of our journey.

What Guests Said About Cardwell:

Cardwell is a quiet town with limited facilities.

Cardwell is a quiet town with limited facilities. We ate at Isla Cabana and the food was very good. Pub was ok and is another option in town. There is just a Foodland for supplies and a few petrol stations/cafes too. However the view over to Hinchibrook Island is stunning you won't do much better than this anywhere in FNQ.

Fish from the jetty, explore the pristine clear waters of the streams around the state pine forest, walk along the tree lined beach. A wonderful promenade along the seafront and lots of cute shops on the main street lining the ocean. Enjoy a meal at the Pub, some excellent dining spots available. Try a wonderful breakfast at the Ocean Jetty Cafe, beautifully cooked and extremely well priced.

The town has one of the most beautiful views in Queensland and is a perfect place to stop for a night or two (or more) if you are travelling north or south. Has a lovely art gallery displaying art by some very talented local artists, and other items hand-made locally; a friendly and welcoming library and a fascinating museum. Cardwell was one of the earliest European settlements on the NQ coast. Beachcombers restaurant gave us an excellent evening meal one night and Terry and Mamiko's does yummy burgers, fish and chips etc. There are swimming holes and walks in the hinterland behind the town and if you drive a couple of km north and turn right into the National Park you can drive through to a beautiful wild and ofen deserted beach. But please don't swim - this is croc country.

Cardwell is made for adventure lovers. You can do bushwalks like Attie Creek Falls, hike the Dalrymple Gap track, swim in the Cardwell Spa pool and at Five Mile Creek.Talk to the staff at the visitors centre as they are really helpful and you can see the museum at the same time.Murray Falls was well worth a drive north and you can also do a 1.8km walk to a lookout at the top of the falls.Don't forget the Hinchinbrook Channel Lookout at the start of the Cardwell Forest Drive.

Having travelled through Cardwell a number of times between Cairns and Townsville, it was great to stop for a few nights on either end of a car trip between the two once more. The restaurant at Beachcombers was lovely. Totally recommend the kangaroo entree. Went for walks in the morning along the Esplanade and up further to the river. Was able to get an easy 8km in. Close to walks and the Cardwell spas which I hadn't stopped at despite living here three years. Highly recommend a good few days to explore Cardwell and surrounds.

There is nothing to do unless you have a boat and want to go fishing, beware the crocs. There are plenty of nature activities, like visiting close by falls and creeks. A very beautiful area either side of Cardwell. Limited shops and places to eat.

Attached to a pub, these motel rooms are newly refurbished, tasteful and comfortable. We appreciated little touches like the USB charging ports in the sockets by the beds and the very warm welcome. The traditional Aussie pub up front was so friendly, and the bistro (grab a table overlooking the road and the sea) food was excellent - we had the Thai salad. Cardwell is a small place, but quite pleasant. I would say Nightcap at the Marine Hotel represents excellent value for money.

Convenient location in Cardwell. Parking close to cabin and enjoyed being able to close the bedroom to the main cabin area. Staff were friendly and really accommodating on the phone, pool area well maintained and cabins kept tidy.
