Nice country town near to Warrumbungles National park.
Nice country town near to Warrumbungles National park. Golden Sea dragon is a Chinese restaurant with amazing decor and good food. Bakery has great coffee. We will go back for more star gazing, walks and a guided tour of the Siding Spring observatory.

The observatory was placed at Siding Springs in the hope...
The observatory was placed at Siding Springs in the hope that the town would not grow, and apparently this was successful - it has reduced in size since then. Nevertheless, I found that the shops were well patronised and reflected a positive aura. The chicken shop ran out of chicken, on the night I tried to buy food there (I would say that us equally a good and bad indicator). Pub meals start at 6, which I think is fairly normal.
The main attractions in the area are the telescope and the Warumbungles - how much time you spend there, would depend on your interests in nature etc.

The nearby Warrumbungles are fantastic.
The nearby Warrumbungles are fantastic. So is Siding Springs and I had a good bushwalk past sandstone caves north of Coonabarrabran. The town has good facilities - Woolworths and takeaway shops. The NRMA mechanic was very helpful.

We were in Coonabarabran for the Coonabarabran Cup race...
We were in Coonabarabran for the Coonabarabran Cup race meeting over the October 26th & 27th weekend. There was a hive of activity over the weekend in all the Hotels and the bowling club.
Plenty of food options. A nice town to visit and stay.

Ideal place to have an overnight stay after driving for max. 10 hours including regular breaks.
Good range of takeaway food places and the local Woolworths supermarket.
Very easy to get around Coonabarabran with the highway being the main street.

A great stopover when passing through Coonabarabran, convenient, clean, best fluffy towels on our trip. Decor is a bit dated, but excellent value for money. Fresh milk!
Great Chinese restaurant across the road and excellent coffee and breakfast at Feathers Cafe a block down, through the council carpark

We were travelling with our dogs, this hotel is dog friendly, the rooms are neat, clean, well serviced and spacious and there is a large grassy area for them to have a run.
