Swan Hill is fascinating, with fine architecture and a lively, walkable town, unusually lively for Australian provincial cities at night. It was the second largest inland port in Australia, the largest being Echuca; so it is historically interesting, and one can see remnants along the river as well as some fine architecture that has lasted.
It is a friendly, safe town, with a fine, eminently comfortable rail link to Melbourne, as well as bus links to Adelaide and Albury, the latter connecting with the train to Sydney.

Swan Hill is a nice town to visit for a day or two.
Swan Hill is a nice town to visit for a day or two. There's not a lot of tourist stuff to do in town but can make a great base for the wider area. Good pubs and restaurants and all other facilities you'd expect for a town of this size.

Great walking track along the river and beautiful parklands.
Great walking track along the river and beautiful parklands. Laser night show at the Pioneer Settlement is a must see experience as well as a meal at Spoons cafe overlooking the river.
The Federal Hotel was a great find for dinner with a lovely roaring fireplace and relaxed ambience along with a great menu.

It was our first stay in Swan Hill.
It was our first stay in Swan Hill. We used it as a base to visit regional towns Sea Lake, Birchip and Donald. We chose this motel because of its proximity to the Murray River. The township itself was very well laid out with plenty of attractions for visitors.

Does it ever change. Attractive river area but very disappointing town when compared to Echucha Kerang Mildura.. Trying to find r somewhere nice to eat is a chore. This town always looks dead and we have been travelling through it for over 40 years.
Hasn't changed but we are always hopeful

Pioneer settlement and paddle boat cruise was amazing , lake Tyrell was pristine . Staff from hotels seemed unanimous that they are miserable or stubborn. (Or purely hate out of towners). Typical being NSW north of Murray river haha
