GreeceThe place is extraordinary. In the heart of the valley. Although we booked a smaller room, Adam upgrade us with a better room. Everything was perfect. The room, it was clean, the view from tje balcony breathtaking and the brekfast also perfect. Adam was very kind and helpful. We had also parking in the property, very important if you are travelling by car. For sure we will choose it again and we totally recommend it to everyone!

United KingdomWe had the priviledge of using the Director's suite on the fourth/top floor of the hotel - with unbelievably good views - sofa in sitting room makes into another big bed - we believe there's a kitchen up there too.
The hotel does B&B style in the summer with evening dining in the winter for skiers. The smorgasbord for breakfast was extensive - plenty to eat before the day's activities - they bought in some soya milk for me. There's a fridge in reception area with honesty sheet for beers etc taken and supplied by the hotel. A short walk down the road there's the super Italian Da Sina Ristorante - but book to avoid disappointment - lovely staff and great ambience and food cooked fresh to order.
The staff are kind and friendly and do their utmost to help you make your stay what you are looking for - rooms cleaned daily, towels checked and replaced if used, everything looks and feels clean - whilst the Jungfrau smiles down on you and the colours of the mountains change from sunrise to sunset - occasionally you become aware of a mountain cow bell. On request a electric taxi will take you and your luggage from the station up to the hotel and on the return. Wengen is car free apart from practical deliveries by electric vehicles - you may even get to see a delivery by the valley helicopter!
The hotel also has a library, well equipped games and tv room and another communal lounge - and a free pen!
We were there for the annual Mendelssohn Music Festival - and got to meet a number of the professional performers at breakfast! - the Festival is a MUST!
WE LOVED EVERY MINUTE !

TurkeyIt was one of the best views ever from a room I stayed in. Wengen is amazing and Hotel Alpenruhen's location is excellent. You can see the entire Lauterbrunnen valley below. Hotel is 12 mins of train ride from Lauterbrunen and then a 7-8 min slight uphill walk from Wengen train station. They pick you up and drop you off at check in and check out which is very nice. The room is spacious, modern and luxurious. Breakfast area is comfortable and food was delicious.

Very quiet with limited food choices.
Very quiet with limited food choices. The scenery was breathtakingly beautiful. The gondolas & bus transport were not at all intimidating. Not a lot to do there, but breathe in the scenery & enjoy! We loved it as a base town for other activities.

This place is spectacular for the hiker, photographer, and the traveler who has to visit the coolest places in the world. You are literally surrounded by Alps, reaching clost to 10,000 feet ABOVE your already lofty altitude. The Swiss offer a dozen or so ways to get around, including cog railways, narrow gauge railroads, cable cars, trails, and an occasional road. Individual prices, except for the Jungfrau, are pretty reasonable considering the extraordinary expense of building and operating transportation systems in a remote place.
The completely unexpected pleasure from our trip, other than the camaraderie that we felt at Esther's, the Moutain Hostel, and Pension Gimmelwald, was the trip to the summit at Schilthorn. The cost for the cable car from Murren was in the $40 range, but the views were 100% worth it. We went around 0900, and walked around at the 9700' summit until we got enough courage to see if we could afford the revolving restaurant at the top. The prices were completely reasonable, and we didn't get any sideways glances for our order of coffee drinks and frites! Such a pleasure to be treated well even if you're not dropping $150.
While you could stay for a week or more in Gimmelwald, I think that three or four nights is optimal, probably with some time elsewhere in the valley. I suspect that Murren gets 10X the traffic, and it's lovely, but give me Gimmelwald anyday. Good places to eat and stay, and you cannot beat the views!

Gimmelwald is a picturesque village with stunning views at every turn. We stayed at Esther's Guesthouse, which is ideally located right next to the cable car station. There's a lovely park just outside the station where our kids had a great time playing. We took the cable car to Murren one day and hiked the trail from Gimmelwald to Murren on another, giving us the chance to explore both charming villages. One of the highlights of our stay was the honesty shops, where you can pick up fresh milk, eggs, and cheese—perfect for families with young children. We also enjoyed a fantastic pizza at the hostel restaurant. Overall, Gimmelwald offers a perfect mix of natural beauty, convenience, and unique local experiences

I can’t imagine a better location for exploring that part of the Alps then Gemmel world. You get wherever you want from right there. And it does not feel at all like a tourist town, such as Interlaken.

Absolutely magical place.
Absolutely magical place. We were only there for one night sadly. But went to Birg at sunrise (the cafe was closed and the only people there were construction workers but it was incredible to see the sunrise over the alps with that view). We had pizzas and beers at the Mountain Hostel - the pizza was amazing! Would recommend to anyone.

It totally exceeded our expectations. Best way to spend our 25th wedding anniversary. Imagine waking up with a view of the Alps from your room, what could be better than that? Add the friendly and homey vibe of the place, the best pizza we've ever had, and guests and staff who all make you feel like family. Our experience was truly magical. We definitely recommend the Mountain Hostel and would stay here again next time we visit Gimmelwald.

It literally felt like home. Very cozy, you get to know people easily, you have a living room, a big kitchen and it just felt lively and nice. The washroom is great, clean and new. The views were absolutely incredible. If you like feeling like you’re in a big, shared home this is for you! If not, I would pay slightly more for a proper hotel.
