Hosts Raquel & Sergio were helpful, and their cabanas are nicely off the beaten track. On the other side of the inlet from the trip hawkers in Puerto Rio Tranquilo, and at the foot of a thrilling mountain crossing, Puerto Sanchez is a small village but a perfect base from which to see the marble caves. Sergio will be your skipper, and Raquel’s brother, Jason, was our enthusiastic and informative guide. It was a great boat trip. Also, we enjoyed cooking for ourselves for a change. Gather your provisions in Coyhaique and make use of the fully appointed kitchen. (There are no cafes in Puerto Sanchez.) Sergio had a fire built in the stove, ready to light. The bed was comfortable. We had a very relaxing time in Puerto Sanchez.

I had an incredible stay here thanks to the lovely hosts. Omar and his family are some of the kindest people I have ever met. While I was there, I came down with a very bad sickness My husband and friend were gone to explore while I was home sick and my fever got very high. I messaged Omar to ask if they had any medicine I could take, and his family ended up offering to take me to the local doctor, who they had to call to come in because it was after hours. The family kept checking on me afterwards to see if I was doing okay. They were also very patient talking to me with my limited Spanish! They even baked us fresh bread! They really helped me so much and I am very grateful for their kindness and hospitality. In addition to the host family being so nice, the cabin itself is nice and has exactly what you would want to visit the Rio Tranquilo area. It is across the street from the lake and located on the family's land where they have sheep and chickens. The location is very peaceful. I highly recommend staying here, it is a great choice. Muchas gracias Omar y familia!

We find cabana easy; have been contacted and communicated with the owner over the phone by text messaging, and he give us all the information. Cabana is situated in the small, quiet city of Bahia Murta. It is equipped with all you may need. The kitchen we have all necessary utensils, gas stove and electric water kettle. We found firewood easy and set up stove to make it warm. Beds were comfortable as well.

We travelled to Puerto Tranquilo to kayak to the Marble Caves/Chapels—which I highly recommend! I only wish we had stayed longer so we could also visit Laguna San Rafael from there. We ended up doing the Laguna San Rafael glacier tour from Puerto Chacabuco instead, but the ferry journey felt too long for my liking—it was a 12‑hour round trip just to reach the glacier and return. There is a much closer access point from Puerto Tranquilo, and I would definitely choose that option next time.

There are very few excursions available in Puerto Rio Tranquilo - especially with the closure of the Exploradores Glacier. I would recommend to stay in Puerto Guadal instead which is 1 hour away. Easier to cover the area around (Chile Chico, Cochrane, Patagonia National Park) and even to come to Rio Tranquilo as needed (which is 1 hour drive away).

Puerto Tranquilo is a "boom" town.

Puerto Tranquilo is a "boom" town. It looks to be experiencing growing pains and the zoning and growth of the town appears to be in the hands of the people of PT. Hopefully they will have the foresight to zone appropriately and grow in an manner that is good for the town as well as the tourism industry. The main attraction appears to be the San Raphael Glaciefr that is retreating at an alarming rate (thank you global warming.) It is what it is.

Great location to explore the Marble Caves, glaciers, the confluence of the local rivers, the Patagonia National Park. Really one of the most beautiful areas that I have ever visited. So glad to have experienced it before it gets more well known and bigger. Will definitely go back.

The road here is hard off-road.

The road here is hard off-road. The town itself is small, you can get around in an hour. There are places to eat. Grocery stores are tiny, the choice is minimal, and prices are high. A small selection of hotels and very expensive. But there is incredible natural beauty here! And if you are interested in the Marble Caves, then you will have to put up with some inconvenience.

Great and quiet location. Close to restaurants, shops, actually everything is close in Puerto Tranquilo. Tour providers for the marble tours and harbor are right across the street. Check-out is at 11.00 so if you take the first tour in the morning you can check-out after the trip. Large apartment with a living room and a bedroom. The kitchen is equipped with everything you might need.

This was our Gem place for the whole trip duration! Such a beautiful place with a wonderful view 🥰 we have been lucky with weather and the colours were amazing. I enjoyed a lot the shower, I have found the shower water mostly coldish in many hotels in Chile. If you want to have a great stay, I really recommend this place.
