The pension was really cosy and comfortable, with a friendly owner and the breakfast was good. The club room was an added bonus for hanging out. It is walking distance from the city center. Everything seemed to be well organized and we had a great stay.

This hotel was a good choice: my queen bed was good, breakfast was extensive and enjoyable, and the neighbourhood nicely in the center of town. Restaurants are almost right next door, yet the area was quiet in March. There is also a bakery right opposite which opens at 06:30 every weekday and on 07:00 on Saturdays which sells sandwiches, which can be an alternative to breakfast. I loved the fact that animals were accepted, but failed to meet the cat at reception. There is a pool table downstairs, a fitness on floor 1 and a sauna at floor 6 which has a nice roof terrace (bring a bathrobe or yukata!). The hotel provided a minibar in my room with the drinks included. Upon request they also provided me with a kettle. The desk worked fine for me, more room than normally in a hotel, and there was ample space for my suitcase and hangers for my clothes. My room was at the back and had 2 large windows that could open all the way or just a bit at the top. Multiple pillows were provided, though they seemed the same to me. The bathroom was good and water pressure was great. When my laptop did not connect to the WiFi they fixed this really quick at reception.

Have been born and growing up in Dessau - for me it has been the last visit from overseas to visit my Mom's and Brother's graves. Saying 'Good Bye' to the last surviving long, long time fiends since schooldays 1945. Even living since 1960 overseas (Australia, Canada) Dessau still has been "Heimat".

I went primarily to visit the Bauhaus, the museum and it's related sites. I'm a retired architect and hence arrived with prior knowledge and interest in the famous school. That said, I have doubts whether these offer much to a general audience. Yet, the smaller size of Dessau makes it easy to understand and to navigate on foot or bicycle. A very nice surprise was the lively centrum, the beautiful parks and historic sites unrelated to modern architecture. I borrowed a bike for a day, rode to the banks of the Elbe and the Mulde rivers, and on to the Schloss Luisium. (I had beautiful weather so that undoubtedly added to my enjoyment.) If any of these activities interests you, then it's worth getting off the beaten tourist path and giving Dessau a try. A note to US travelers, not much English spoken here, but folks were friendly. So have a translator handy on your phone and be friendly in return.

I enjoyed Dessau immensely, and found the people to be very...

I enjoyed Dessau immensely, and found the people to be very thoughtful and generous with their time. During my stay it was snowing and a little cold, adding to the sense of time and place, and adding to the drama of visiting somewhere new. I hired a car to travel in a timely fashion and to stay warm. Driving was enjoyable and challenging as I adjusted to the right side of the road; with train tracks and tram to negotiate too. My German is limited, but for the most part I had enjoyable, pleasant conversations with the staff at places I visited. I particularly liked the location of the Bauhaus buildings of interest and the Design Museum; the foundation studies in art and design I studied in the early nineties was reinforced. The historical 'Bauhaus' building provides the architectural context of Bauhaus and it reinforced the excellent understanding of materials and their functionality. Dessau is approx. 40km from Leipzig airport and is easy to drive too. There is also a train. If you enjoy museums and like your own company for these visits as I do - hours spent reading and absorbing the space, the design of form and the principles:- these alone can take up your time. I enjoyed a coffee and a pastry whilst scribbling down ideas. Truly a remarkable place to visit. More time to delve deeper is needed. I hope I can visit again soon as the hotel was only a short distance from the places I would return too in Dessau.

Very interesting to visit the Bauhaus buildings in Dessau...

Very interesting to visit the Bauhaus buildings in Dessau and to learn more about the history of Bauhaus. The Dessau-Wörlitz Gartenreich is magnificent and all parcs I visited were very nice and well maintained.

BAUHAUS is the must-see highlight, of course! Just great.

BAUHAUS is the must-see highlight, of course! Just great. But there are also many other historic buildings that make a up a ensemble worth visiting. Very clear signposts to guide to all important venues. And to be honest: I was surprised by meeting 100% friendly and welcoming people in Dessau. In short: Go there!
