United StatesIt was a beautiful and charming chateau and we felt very welcomed and cared for during our stay. Our room was spacious and comfortable with a lovely view of the grounds outside our window. We thoroughly enjoyed the cuisine at the restaurant and did a wine pairing dinner which was delicious. We started each day with a good breakfast, complete with eggs, fresh fruit, yogurt and a lovely assortment of breads and cakes. The location of the chateau was perfect for our castle tours and we enjoyed traveling on the open country roads to Amboise for shopping and lunch. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thank you for your hospitality!

The chateau is really beautiful compared to, say, Blois or...
The chateau is really beautiful compared to, say, Blois or Amboise. No other chateau was built across a river. Its history is unique in that it’s closely connected to six females. Chenonceaux is a very small town. I was there in the fall and I found only one cafe open. If you are not staying in a hotel it’s better you find something to eat in the chateau. If you are not driving you can reach the chateau easily. The chateau is practically next to the train station.

Cannot fault a single thing.
Cannot fault a single thing. When we arrived (late afternoon) there was no space in the restaurant for that evening for dinner but the staff were extremely helpful in recommending alternative venues in the village and offered room service if that failed.
Our accommodation was excellent, food in the restaurant first class and wonderful staff.

Plan to spend a whole day to discover the castle and gardens. You can ask for a stamp on your wrist to leave the grounds and return within the same day, so you don't have to eat overpriced food with thousands of tourists. You can get sandwiches at the local bakery for picnic.
We highly recommend taking the audio guide: it must be booked in advance, as they tend to run out of them. The audio guide has several extra recordings that provide interesting info (e.g., food in the Renaissance times, sleeping advice from Ambroise Paré, the WWI and WWII periods, etc).
We stayed at the Clos Medicis: great location, great room with comfy beds. highly recommended!

The Chateau and gardens are amazing!
The Chateau and gardens are amazing! The only detraction was that our visit was on a very hot Sunday afternoon and the number of visitors made it crowded. Still, the flow of the audio tour through the Chateau moved along. The online reservation system worked fine.
A huge number of kayakers and boaters in the River Cher made photo opportunities challenging. Despite these issues it was a great experience and a tremendous learning opportunity regarding the history.

Problem with the alarm system so we were offered a room in the hotel opposite where the room was superior.This was arranged.by a charming helpful reception ist at our original hotel .food at the hotel to which we moved good and we slept well with out the alarm system going off all night

Location for chenonceaux was great, it was a 10 minute cycle. Very old school hotel/house, the lady who welcomed us did not speak any English which was fine as we muddled through. The building was very characterful.
