The property was gorgeous, you can see the stars at night and there are cows in the field on the other side of the house. Very very beautiful and wish we were there longer.

The property was beautiful including the grounds which were an incredible view. Food and bar was outstanding as was the service. It’s definitely out of the way to get to but well worth it.

Macbeth Arms was a great little inn! The staff were so lovely and accommodating! I accidentally booked for the wrong night (which I realized the day AFTER we were supposed to arrive!) and they were able to shift our reservations and gave me a discount on the additional night. The rooms were very comfortable and light. Plenty of space and comfortable beds. The food and drinks at the pub were good and the community was very welcome. Each time we went to the pub, local folks struck up conversation and were very kind.

What Guests Said About Aboyne:

Scored out of 10, guest rating 10

Aboyne is a lovely place for a short break.

Aboyne is a lovely place for a short break. Good facilities and lovely surroundings. Places to eat out at night are limited but what is on offer is good. At present the Aboyne bridge to the South Deeside road is closed to vehicles and will be so for the next few years. Approach the town by the A93 or face a 10 to 15 mile diversion.

Staff were all lovely, cheerful, friendly and very well informed about the food. The place is lively as ever, all attractively decorated in their theme colour of blue. We had a river view from our window. Very good food, portions very large and would feed folks who had done long walks. I used to do that but sadly not now. Most comfortable room. Just a lovely place. Aboyne is a delightful large village set amongst beautiful scenery. It seems to have a real community feel about it and the public spaces are clean and well cared for. We preferred it to the very touristy Ballater down the road and would stay here again.

We didn't stop in the town of Aboyne itself, but if (or rather, when!) we go back, we will do so, as it looked very pleasant as we drove through. The scenery in the area is beautiful, and we enjoyed our drives around the area. There are plenty of placed of interest to visit and a super-abundance of castles. We greatly enjoyed our day at Castle Fraser.

We brought our dogs with us on a business trip and the Boat Inn was terrifically dog friendly. From initial conversations to a well appointed, dog friendly room complete with treats, dog towels, poo bags and dog bowl pads. The bar is completely dog friendly right down to comfy blankets and a donut dog bed which our Blue Whippet greatly appreciated.

Good size, warm, comfy beds. Outdoor seating area. Parking. Cooker was hard to navigate at first but lots of instructions to help. Liked that there were walks through the woods and lots of recommendations on places to visit. Really enjoyed our stay and would recommend.
