the hotel was lovely. we like the food being all local produce as i come from a farming family . We loved the peace and quiet , just the place to re charge and relax. We fell asleep listening to the waves lapping on the shore. Hope to return next year. Thank you to all the staff and family.

The cabin exceeds expectations. It is beautifully decorated and has everything you need. The host contacted us beforehand and asked us what cake we would like on arrival! A lovely welcome basket had all your tea/coffee essentials.

Everything! What a wonderful place. Impeccably maintained house , rooms and the beautiful gardens. Service too was excellent. And the price is so reasonable. Attention to detail is so evident.

Auchencairn is a delightful village on the coast of SW Scotland in Dumfries and Galloway. It is a quiet community on a very beautiful stretch of nature rich coastline where the coast, woodland and farmland intermingle. Auchencairn village is very pretty and has a superb shop, cafe, Post Office combined which offers a range of groceries and mementos, delicious home made bakes and drinks and take out meals. Only a few miles away is the superb Balcary House Country Hotel which offers excellent accommodation and dining. It is a very historic building in a wonderful location on a stretch of accessible beach with views to Hestan Island. Bird watching in the area is excellent, as is the range of walks that can be undertaken. This is a beautiful spot well worth visiting. Auchencairn is only a short drive from the notable towns of Castle Douglas, the food town, and Kirkcudbright, the artists town, both well worth a visit. Also, not far away is the village of Dundrennan with its historic Abbey and associations with Mary Queen of Scots fateful departure for England. This is an area of Scotland that is well worth visiting.

I travelled with family. All adults and 2 dogs.

I travelled with family. All adults and 2 dogs. We had the best time. We took plenty of food and didn't leave the cottage all weekend. It's rustic. Beautiful garden. Plenty of space for everyone. Gorgeous character. Fires, delightful. The cottage is at the end of a country, farm road. Bit bumpy but fine. Lovely walks.

Auchencairn itself doesn't have many facilities, but there are lovely walks/cycle rides nearby and lots of interesting small towns to visit in the neighbourhood. I would recommend Kirkcudbright for individual shops and nice pubs/restaurants (The Selkirk) and Kippford for walks and views (The Anchor serves great food). Castle Douglas, Gatehouse of Fleet and Rockcliffe all worth a visit.
