I needed somewhere to stay in Lamlash for the night before heading to Holy Isle the next day and the Glenisle looked promising. I’m so pleased I booked. A warm welcome, a very comfortable room and a lovely evening in the bar where I met several super friendly locals. And breakfast the next morning was fabulous. Highly recommended.

A bit more to do in Brodick than the other villages on Arran...

A bit more to do in Brodick than the other villages on Arran, however this is not a destination for a shopaholic, unless sampling the local food and drink. The scenery round the island is simply stunning, however we were there on days that showed Arran in all its glory. Not many places can beat this location on a perfect summers day. There are plenty of places to stop around the island and admire the breathtaking views. We had a truly idyllic 3 days travelling around Arran. Blackwaterfoot bakery, now located at home farm in Brodick is worth a visit, fresh pastries and bread, delish. Opened at 9:30 and still a queue when we arrived at 9:50. Cheese shop at same location is also worth a look, great selection of local cheeses to try. Brodick castle was an eye opener, from the stunning gardens and grounds to the excellent and informative staff inside the castle it was well worth the visit, should have stayed longer, but had to fit so much into a short visit. Plenty of beaches around the island and none of them busy, most are sandy and very quiet. The one at Shiskine has an old army truck on the beach that’s a portable sauna! Don’t be like me and wait 68 years to go to Arran, get there soon, hopefully on a nice day and you’ll probably go back at least once a year thereafter. It would be wrong to single out a single restaurant, as everywhere we ate was excellent. Only problem we had was initially trying to figure out the bus timetables, as they are full of sch, non sch, and other alternatives. Best to use stagecoach app, much easier, or if there when schools are on holiday, Its the Saturday timetable displayed at the bus stops.

We’re very familiar with Brodick as we often visit the Island . It’s sad to see quite a few vacant properties and businesses and the derelict hotel on the front is an eyesore of long standing. Our passion is hill walking so the majority of our time is spent hiking not in the town.

There's something for everyone in Brodick.

There's something for everyone in Brodick. A beach you could spend hours just watching the tides and birds, cute little shops selling local goods amd, most of all, a wide range of hikes, ranging from easy strolls along the coast to adventurous scrambles up in the mountains. All of this within a stunning scenery that is home to friendly & helpful locals.

I liked The Little Rock cafe and The Douglas Hotel for food. And The Auchrannie hotels for swim and spa. Lots of nice little gift shops and a great Charity Shop. Easy to walk around but if you have walking issues the car parking is plentiful. The promenade offers stunning views of Goatfell. There are music sessions in the Ormidale hotel if you like to sing or play an instrument. Arran Heritage museum just outside Brodick very interesting.

Brodick is a lovely seaside town with various shops which include supermarkets and tourist shops. Also plenty of restaurants/hotels where the food is delicious. Prices similar to mainland. There are caravan rentals available or camping near the beach.
