The Annex room with private bathroom was very good. The description of having to climb 40 stairs to the annex rooms is misleading. It was not a straight up 40 Steps but definitely not for those traveling with suitcases. Loved the closeness to the cathedral which allowed free unlimited walking in the cathedral and on the grounds all day. Breakfast was sit down by time skits and offered a fabulous huge choice. The rooms bathroom was big and the room had a large smart tv. Internet signal was strong. Definitely the place to stay if you’re a pilgrim starting the Via Francigena because you feel your right in the centre of this beautiful religious sanctuary.

Best location , not far from Canterbury West station. The WestGate Tower and WestGate garden , the attractions are just a few walk away. The staffs are friendly and full of service minded. We had been changed the attic room to the ground floor because of the large luggages , the room is nice and wider .

Heavenly Heritage and Literary Legend

Canterbury’s religious and historic significance has inspired literary greatness. Chaucer’s ‘Canterbury Tales’ were based on pilgrimages to the bygone shrine of Thomas A Becket, who was murdered here. The Marlowe Theatre is named after the 16th-century playwright born here, and the Canterbury Museum has an exhibit on Rupert Bear, whose author lived in this River Stour city.

River cruises and punting provide fantastic views of the striking weavers’ houses right on the water, and of Westgate - the UK’s largest city gate. Other sections of the city walls remain, and there are also ruins of St Augustine’s Abbey, named after the 6th-century saint who brought Christianity to England. He was the first Archbishop of Canterbury, but the modern-day seat is the UNESCO World Heritage-listed cathedral, dating to the 12th century.

From the same period are the Norman castle ruins, occupying the site of a wooden fort constructed by William the Conqueror. The mound they sit on in Dane John Gardens is thought to be a Roman cemetery, and an original mosaic is visible in the Roman Museum.

In the Buttermarket half-timbered houses and historic inns are interspersed with shops, and big name brands line the Whitefriars Shopping Centre. The Canterbury accommodation on Booking.com includes luxury hotels with swimming pools, cheap hostels and city centre B&Bs.

So much history and charm.

So much history and charm. The city has done well to preserve a lot of the old buildings and streets. Great food as well as the usual fast food fare, lovely cafes. Highly recommend the Seafarer fish & chip shop by the cathedral gate - great food and great staff. Brilliant mix of unique shops as well as the chains/retail giants. 3rd Eye if you like that style, Level Up Games as well as Dice of Destiny have great staff and a lot of interesting stock, Yi Lin Contemporary Jewellers have great original designs and the staff member in there was really friendly and helpful. The cathedral is so impressive. There are some lovely private hotels and great rental properties about and we have loved visiting.

Canterbury is a must if you enjoy medieval architecture and history. Otherwise, like every other major city in the UK it suffers from lack of investment, poor maintenance of utilities (rubbish everywhere) and heavy traffic.

Coming from St Albans where the cathedral is free, it was a shock to have to pay £17.50, you can’t even get close to walk around the grounds. We walked around for 1 hour and that was that, a couple of tatty shops a few hundred restaurants, a few roads that looked like they had been forgotten and left to just go to ruin, a lot of homeless people and quite a few beggars. Just what you want on a day trip.

Canterbury is fabulous.

Canterbury is fabulous. Steeped in history, pilgrimages, the oldest cathedral in England and other ancient buildings. Partially intact Roman walls surround the city, that you can walk on. There are beautiful public gardens and scenic walks along the river. It's also a dining and shopping paradise. You can walk everywhere easily. I will go back.

Canterbury is a lovely city. So full of history and charm.

Canterbury is a lovely city. So full of history and charm. The centre is well maintained and has lots of food and shopping options. The Cathedral is stunning. It's a small centre and almost completely pedestrianised so everything is easily accessible. We ate at the Goods Shed Market, which has several options and a good quality restaurant. We travelled out to Bridge to the Pig Restaurant which was excellent.

Beautiful city - wish I had a more time to spend in the cathedral and also venture beyond the very centre and to museums and other attractions like wine tasting. In the centre a large proportion of the eateries were chains which was disappointing - need to do more research to find best dining. Gorgeous city well worth a visit.

Best night away we have had in ages!! The tent was beautiful and had all the essentials you need. The hosts even went above and beyond and added balloons and banners due to birthday. Staff are amazing and so attentive. The location was 30 mins drive from canterbury town centre . And a 5 min drive from wingham wild life park

The hotel is in a brilliant location within the cathedral grounds in the centre of Canterbury, with friendly and attentive staff. We were fortunate enough to be allowed to park onsite which was a great help with a baby. The apartment was a good size, with plenty of space and good sized TV's.
