Historic town at the south end of the Island, the Castle dominates the centre, with many historic places of interest to visit. Scenic Harbour, easy walking. Steam railway station less than a mile from centre.

Castletown had lots of back alleys, viewpoints and museums...

Castletown had lots of back alleys, viewpoints and museums plus the local bus service stopped in the town square. There was quite a bit to watch with several motorbikes setting off and a pipe band there today. Castle Rushen dominates with a very pretty little harbour and several museums as well as the steam train leaving quite close by. It was very pretty and much more interesting than Douglas. We arrived by ferry and the bus journey was lovely from Douglas to Castletown. We flew out from Ronaldsway airport which was walking distance and has the best small military museums that I have ever been to. Can't rate the town highly enough.

I have visited the IOM since 2007 and have visited/stayed in Castletown on a number of occasions.A quiet picture postcard place .I would reccomend a visit to the Castle Lovely local shops bars restaurants /cafes. Castletown is the home to The Southern 100 motorcycle races in early July for 5 days each year .so best to avoid if not your interest 🏍🏍🏍🏍🏍 If you're planning a trip to the IOM Castletown is a great base point after arriving on the ferry in Douglas . Various types of stay from Hotel to self catering to Air BnB

The Castle was really interesting and well worth a visit.

The Castle was really interesting and well worth a visit. There were some other small museums that were interesting but the man in the maritime ? museum went rambling on too much and we had to leave before we actually saw the boat and the smugglers route. Some pleasant walks along the coast and in the town.

We were amazed at how special Castletown is!

We were amazed at how special Castletown is! The castle is a must see; so well preserved, it is a constant in the background, with the sun shining on it. The community square in front of the George Hotel is a real asset, whoever thought of putting the ping pong tables, piano, table football and deckchairs is a genius! We loved the happy atmosphere of people enjoying themselves. The harbour is very picturesque, you can sit outside the Glue Pot in the sunshine and admire the view.. we enjoyed walking through the little streets with interesting and immaculate houses and also walking along the beach with rock pools and a number of light houses! We arrived by steam train and enjoyed trying out all the pubs in the town.
