Everything. Breakfast was lovely. Tasting menu was amazing. Staff were great, especially the girl on the reception/room service who we saw the most. Would visit again and highly recommend. Stayed in one of the ?garden rooms (seperate building with large room and bathroom). Was a very pleasant stay. Peaceful and private.

I'm a Derbyshire man, my wife a Lancashire lass, and we have lived in the far north of Lancashire myself 54 years my wife Lancashire born and bred. It is often said that you can take the man out of wherever but you can't take wherever out of the man.I mentioned that I would very much like to return to "The centre of the universe!!" [Derbys} where I spent many a weekend or holiday cycling with my pal of 71 years,Ian sadly died shortly before our break {he was 84} but memmories flooded back. There are plenty of very good walks in the immediate area, many start with a pub and by defination should end with a pub!!! My wife immediately agreed and did not fully realise the glorious extent of this area The Chequers Inn has details of superb walks , try a few they will not disappoint.

Nice base for walking. Quiet and picturesque.

Nice base for walking. Quiet and picturesque. Padley Gorge is really beautiful but gets very busy on a nice day. The Maynard Hotel is excellent with a lovely garden ( dog friendly ) and good food .

Grindleford is a lovely place.

Grindleford is a lovely place. There are some nice walks hereabouts and the railway station (Grindleford) is across the road - and down the drive - with links to Hathersage, Hope and Edale in one direction and to Sheffield in the other.

What a stunning location!!

What a stunning location!! Padley Gorge was just like a dream. Walked around the surroundings and was just impressed with the surroundings. The amazing green grass, the free walking cow's the trees.. I know it sounds silly, but I live in London.. a very different vibe, haha... honestly, highly recommend.

Good value hotel in a good location for walking. Room was spacious with a large bathroom, very clean, but decor is a bit tired. Menu at night is Indonesian, which I liked but lacked any english options. My main complaint was how noisy the room was, the lack of sound proofing meant the snoring from the adjacent room meant a very disturbed night! Take ear plugs! Lots of dogs, good if you have pets, not so if you don't!
