Lovely to get biscuits in the room after a long cycle ride. Unusual in our recent experience elsewhere. Good hot water for the shower

This is an inn that dates back to 1780. The pub and dining rooms have all been refinished. The dinner was excellent. Our room overlooked the harbour. Fascinating to watch the tide cycle.

What Guests Said About Kirkcowan:

Nice quiet neighbourhood.

Nice quiet neighbourhood. The lochs are so pretty and nice to walk the dogs. The facilities at three lochs are adequate but a little tired if I was to be picky. The aqua park is reasonable price. The restaurant serves very large portions. The swimming pool is basic and the changing facilities could do with an upgrade (no where to change baby. No bins). The shop was predominantly a fishing tackle shop so you are best going to Newton Stewart for any essentials. Otherwise, couldn’t fault it. Had a wonderful time.

The Galloway area exists in a different time zone to the rest of the UK ! Kirkcowan is very (and I mean very) quiet. The roads are almost empty most of the time and things happen at their own pace. Kirkcowan offers no night life or anything like that, it doesn't even have a pub ! So, if that is your thing you will be disappointed. However, if you like restful and relaxing breaks and a slower pace of life, then a holiday here, or anywhere nearby like Wigtown or Whithorn would be ideal. I'd happily live there !

Lovely cosy cottage in a nice little village.

Lovely cosy cottage in a nice little village. Very comfortable beds and very clean. Owner very helpful and friendly. Good base for exploring the south west coast of Dumfries and Galloway. We had a lovely meal at Henry’s Bay Hotel in Stranaer. Would highly recommend it.
