I had a wonderful stay at Butterfly Podika during my trip to Shetland. The pod was comfortable, peaceful and had everything I needed for a relaxing getaway. The terrace and the view were absolutely amazing and became one of the highlights of my trip. Sitting outside with a cup of tea, watching the changing light, the birds and the surrounding landscape was exactly the quiet escape I was looking for. Julia and Jim were incredibly welcoming, kind and helpful throughout my stay. Their hospitality made me feel at home from the moment I arrived. Thank you for creating such a special place. I would happily stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful retreat in Shetland.

Lerwick has a great selection of shops, restaurants and...

Lerwick has a great selection of shops, restaurants and cafes (booking in advance for The Dowery is recommended). Bains beach is a must and the Thule Bar is worth a visit. The people are lovely and very welcoming. It can get busy when the cruise ships are in, but the passengers you meet are from all over and are just as friendly to have a chat with.

Lerwick is the capital of the North.

Lerwick is the capital of the North. Small and nice old town. Starting point for a number of excursions. Bus connections to most points of interest (needing good calculation, the feeders often run only once or twice a day). Lack of good restaurants (or lack of restaurants in general...). Good art cinema and interesting museum.

The people of Shetland are warm and welcoming.

The people of Shetland are warm and welcoming. The vistas and the location of Lerwick are superb. The number of and variety of restaurants and their high quality is first class. The road network from Lerwick to areas beyond is very good allowing one to see a large variety of inland and coastal scenery.

For a place that size, there are some excellent places to...

For a place that size, there are some excellent places to eat and visit. We ate at Saffron, Nepalese/Indian restaurant, Fjara ,cafe/bar beside Tesco and in the Thai restaurant in the Glen Orchy Guest House and The Dowry. Also had takeaway from Fort Fish and Chips. We visited Shetland Textile Museum, Mareel, The Shetland Museum the Town Hall and Clickimin Broch. On a previous visit we has visited Lodberries and Bain's Beach. If you are self catering, there is a large CoOp and an even larger Tesco as well as all the other specialist wee shops for food. Lerwick is supremely easily walkable.

It’s so clean, locals are friendly, scenery spectacular. Easy to get to many picturesque areas like st Ninians beach. Shops are expensive but contain hidden gems. Some of them are bigger than they appear from the streets with many nooks and crannies. Restaurants you really need to book in advance. When the cruise ships come in, it’s quite busy. The museum was lovely, shame about the cafe being closed in there. Jarlshof is worth a visit

Lerwick is a very charming village on Shetland which has many beautiful sights and things to do, on foot or car, plus amazing boat trips to see the abundant bird life off Noss. This is a must do! And travelling to the most northerly points of the UK on Unst, is a beautiful day with the rugged scenery and coastline.

From the minute you enter the apartment is fresh, light and airy with a modern homely feel & the views are just stunning. There is a well equipped breakfast room with a microwave and toaster if you fancied something warm. The beds and sofas were very comfy. The host greets you on arrival and gives a warm welcome which just added to the wonderful experience of Lerwick. Lerwick centre/harbour is only a few minutes by car with ample things to do & places to eat.

Lovely historic hotel which gives it amazing charm. It's not your standard run of the mill bland Travelodge or Premier Inn. Add the fantastic location, extensive car park, wonderful staff who clearly care and want you to have the best stay possible, substantial breakfast, value for money and finally incredibly comfortable beds/linen for a relaxing sleep.
