Small village with a lot of history (lime works / Hoffman Kiln) lying around in the trees. Canal was empty of water; problem with a lock not diverting water more than the hot spell of weather. The Dolphin seems a friendly local pub with home made food

Our accommodation provided us with a really comprehensive folder of local shops and services which promoted local business ( local knowledge helps make good decisions). Follow the SatNav - the roads there are much narrower than our locality and we learnt to ‘risk it’. We’ve never encountered so many working tractors before - this is a farming community and we found them fascinating as they focused on bringing in the hay. Absolutely loads of places to go and experience - Castles and Railway activities, as well as Engineering and Ironworks are well advertised and within a 30minute trip from this area. Morrisons Supermarkets seems to be everywhere! Local pubs and cafes were good value with varied menus.

I know the area and know it's on the Offa's Dyke trail and havehad many enjoyable walks around there along the canal and up to the Lime Kilns and quarry. I have also enjoyed playing on the local golf course - one of the most interesting ones I've been on!

Go for a walk along canal route called Offa and there is that tower over bridge. Actually the pizza place and fish and chip shop (£10.00) are close walking from the main car wash and Dolphin Inn. There is a Bengal restaurant and hotel. Welshpool is 15 minutes drive away. Pub busy hours are very popular so be aware but you can walk around the Offa trail through the car park where Dolphin Inn is.

The area I was staying in was quiet, people were friendly, the scenery was lovely. There were plenty of sites of historic interest, especially the canals, in the area. Wildlife reserves, walking trails and pleasant towns were all within a short drive. There are several terrific viewpoints - all well worth the effort of the climb to get to them.

The good services in town (if open) are the Bradford Arms Hotel (great food) and the corner Cafe nearby. Otherwise, not much here. There's an interesting short hike to the hilltop above town and the outdoor industrial museum (lime kiln) nearby.

Booked an overnight stay with 2 friends in the family room. Thought the price was really reasonable with breakfast included. The kitchen was out of action but this did not prove a problem as there were a couple of places within a short walking distance to get food. Breakfast was provided in a café just over the road. Landlord and locals were very welcoming. An old grade 2 listed hotel, so worn in places but we found beds clean and comfortable. Parking was available at back of hotel.

The kitchen at the pub/hotel was out of action so they paid for me to have breakfast at a little cafe opposite, that was probably the best bit. Also ate dinner at the nearby Dolphin Inn which was superb fresh fish- recommend that place.

Room was very good, well equipped, clean, and had great wifi. Rest of the hotel has a derelict, about-to-fold feeling. Doesnt open the doors till 5pm, no meals Mon-Wed.
