The architecture is largely traditional stone: lovely!

The architecture is largely traditional stone: lovely! There are plenty of good eateries available. (I especially liked "Beans"!) I travelled to Oundle in order to attend my niece's latest gig: at "Queen Victoria Hall". (Although, I must admit to having had problems in locating the venue!)

Apart from being the home of an excellent school the town...

Apart from being the home of an excellent school the town benefits from being within that midland ‘belt’ of beautiful ‘golden’ stone. In the sunshine all the buildings glow. The hotel is partly built from stone rescued from Fotheringhay Castle nearby. Hence the reference to Mary Queen of Scots where she was beheaded in 1587.

A lovely little place.

A lovely little place. Very quaint with some independent shops, restaurants and cafes. I used it as a base to visit Burghley house, Grimsthorpe, castle and Peterborough cathedral. Stayed at the Talbot hotel in the centre of the village. A lovely hotel with great dining

A beautiful small town with most facilities and some lovely...

A beautiful small town with most facilities and some lovely small independent shops. We loved the fruit and veg market on a Thursday and there are some nice cafes. Internet connection is poor so that could be a problem for some. Some cafes have WiFi. Anyone used to big-city facilities could be disappointed by the small range of restaurants and extremely quiet night life, but for most people looking for a short break away from all that, it's perfect.

We are a retired couple and I am not very agile so I found...

We are a retired couple and I am not very agile so I found some difficulty negotiating the complicated layout. We only had one night and it was cold and rainy so didn't explore much. Oundle seems dominated by the Public School and we were told that the two large churches were stripped out for school use so we didn't visit them. The main reason for the visit was to meet friends in a pretty village nearby.

Beautiful Town with a great market, loved walking around,...

Beautiful Town with a great market, loved walking around, the history fantastic and is close to other amenities. Good for parking, lots of places to stop for a couple of hours, plenty of cafes and pubs and near to a country park which was excellent.

No 3 is brilliantly set up, stylish and spotless. The host is super speedy on messaging ( we had no issues merely schedule changes ). Always I bring extras however here everything was plentiful -from coffee capsules to loo toll to dishwasher tablets! Super attractively furnished and designed. All cutlery and glassware gleaming. As for the location it's literally across the road from the world's prettiest Waitrose! All of Oundle is walkable.

Excellent location. Oundle is lovely. Walkable to a couple of lovely walks, pubs and cafes. The house itself was very clean, well equipped and comfortable beds. The kitchen has everything you need including extra items such as condiments, large fridge and freezer. Lovely touches with the biscuits and crisps left for us. We will definitely be back.

We were given friendly welcome. The rooms were clean, tidy and all the facilities were good. Oundle is a really nice location for an overnight stay and the Ship is a very affordable accommodation option.
