Loved this stay, 100% the best me and my girlfriend have been to so far. And we come up to Leeds every month. I found the address super easy to find and has that farm type feel to it. Everything you could possibly need it only a 10min drive away which I found was quite good and there was plenty of space for both our cars. The cabin has everything you'd ever need including a fridge, Smart TV, shower, and cooking equipment. Along with the super friendly cats. Would definitely book again

Loved the museum and castle.

Loved the museum and castle. However loads of rubbish in streets. Town needs better pubs that serve food.Easy to drive and get around. Drove to Yorkshire sculpture park in west bretton and it was fabulous

Pontefract is a town full of history and so much to see.

Pontefract is a town full of history and so much to see. It is a total pleasure just wandering around the town and a joy to see a traditional market and market hall with plenty of local produce. Thank fully some well-known high street shops have survived as well as there being some independent businesses. I especially enjoyed the antiques & collectables shops and very much appreciated the street names reflecting earlier settlement and traditions. I didn't manage to spend as much time as I would have liked enjoying local history sites but look forward to returning to enjoy the museum options, the castle, local parks ... and perhaps attend a horse race meeting at some point. Pontefract is very close to so many other interesting towns and a range of historical sites. Leeds and York are near enough to visit and there are a a number of historic country houses to visit which contain their own collections and provide interesting events throughout the year. I am particularly interested in The Wars of the Roses and it is worth checking online for websites explaining the history and the location of the Battle of Towton. There are marked trails through beautiful countryside and I was surprised to note how many country pubs were still thriving as useful stop-off points. I am unable to walk any distance these days but next time I visit the area I will be researching and planning trips where I can drive to specific points of interest whether for historic interest or sustenance en route.

We stayed 4 nights.

We stayed 4 nights. Did lots of trips out to RHS Harrogate, N/T and English Heritage properties. Good base to explore. Plenty of restaurants. Very nice volunteer lady at Pontyfract castle, gave us lots of information about the castle, plants and area.

A friendly market town.

A friendly market town. A gem of a local museum, some fine architecture, and a ruined castle to explore. A bustling indoor and outdoor market. A lively racecourse with some great views. Some decent places to eat and drink.

The hotel is not in Pontefract, which is a town nearby and has a castle. The Wentbridge House Hotel is in Wentbridge, a lovely, historic and peaceful village. It also has a very nice pub restaurant where we had an afternoon aperitif, after a lovely walk around the village.

Pontefract, a market town which l thought had a surprising amount of supermarkets or food stores. There was also an indoor and outdoor market. The town has a distinct working class vibe to it and the museum gives some key information about its industrial past. The local people l found were very helpful and friendly. lf you're interested in history, the ruined castle has some fascinating facts about medieval and seventeenth century events that helped to shape English history. l had a good chat with a volunteer on entering the grounds who looks after a herb garden. Some of the architecture, an austere characteristic which gives the town a unique appeal.

The staff were amazing! So helpful and knowledgeable. A real credit to the hotel. Beautiful grounds as well. The menu for dinner and the drinks menu were amazing. Very high quality and was better than the dinner at the 5-star hotel we had the night before.

For a night in pontefract, the hotel is in a good position and cheap. All I needed was a place to sleep a shower, toilet and a bed to sleep in as close to the centre as possible it had all those, and i slept well.
