The property is very close to the town and the ferry so definitely walkable but note it is does end with a challenging hill. The hosts are very welcoming and friendly and I couldn't ask for more in that respect. The bedroom and private bathroom were very clean and tidy, noting a short stretch of shared corridor between the two. The bed was comfy and the house/neighbourhood were quiet so I slept well. This was my first time in a home-stay type setting and would definitely recommend it and would do it again where there is an obvious cost difference to equivalently positioned hotels.

Fun Cadillac themed decor and amazing 1950s American diner where we had breakfast. The two rooms we had were great, very comfortable and with good sea views. Would go back.

Port Bannatyne is about 2 miles away from the ferry and the...

Port Bannatyne is about 2 miles away from the ferry and the capital. Far enough to make it a quieter place away from the hustle and bustle. It has cafes and bars within easy reach and, although our stay was short I would recommend. The Anchor pub has a good review, is community owned, dog friendly, and on the seafront.

Great neighbourhood. Friendly locals. Lovely walks along the coast road. Great coffee at the post office/coffee shop where they also sell groceries and gifts. Super community pub with real ale. Nice bakery which also serves good coffee. Port Bannatyne is on a bus route, there's parking on the coast road if you come by car, but it's a superb walk from Rothesay if you have time.

The slow pace of life a quiet village, with a lovely sea...

The slow pace of life a quiet village, with a lovely sea view. You can walk along the sea front sit on a bench and watch the boats and ferries coming and going into Rothesay itself just breathtaking. We visited Ardencraig gardens and aviary which have beautiful flowers that are well maintained The aviary has a variety of small birds are delightful to watch. We saw the Standing stones that can be reached by car or bus. A hop on hop off bus tour is also available on the Island.

Port Bannatyne is 2 miles from Rothesay.

Port Bannatyne is 2 miles from Rothesay. There is a small village shop and one community run pub. The only cafe was not open during our stay, so we had to drive back to Rothesay to get something to eat. Very few pubs do food and there's not many places available to eat in the evening.

Port Bannatyne is beautiful and so peaceful.

Port Bannatyne is beautiful and so peaceful. Absolutely stunning views and really comfy bed, The only thing I would suggest to improve facilities is that a better hotplate for cooking is needed, as the one provided only had one plate working. I knowmost people don't cook on holiday though and there are loads of great places to eat on Bute. The pubs and cafes are fantastic and I'd particularly recommend the Post Office at Port Bannatyne, Callows in Rothesay for home baking and breakfast and the Galatea for a great night out and fantastic live music.

The cottage is at Ettrick bay, not Port Bannatyne!

The cottage is at Ettrick bay, not Port Bannatyne! Ettrick bay is beautiful. Large sandy beach on the west coast of Bute. Minimal accommodation available here. Surrounding fields support a good selection of wildlife.
