Upon arrival, we were upgraded to a seaview room and had just enough time in daylight to see how beautiful it was. The bed was extremely comfortable, and the room beautifully appointed.

The property is very close to the town and the ferry so definitely walkable but note it is does end with a challenging hill. The hosts are very welcoming and friendly and I couldn't ask for more in that respect. The bedroom and private bathroom were very clean and tidy, noting a short stretch of shared corridor between the two. The bed was comfy and the house/neighbourhood were quiet so I slept well. This was my first time in a home-stay type setting and would definitely recommend it and would do it again where there is an obvious cost difference to equivalently positioned hotels.

Fun Cadillac themed decor and amazing 1950s American diner where we had breakfast. The two rooms we had were great, very comfortable and with good sea views. Would go back.

Lovely seaside town with lots to see .the open top bus tour...

Lovely seaside town with lots to see .the open top bus tour was very enjoyable goes all the way around the Isle of Bute views are lovely great way to see all the villages round the island.the driver was very knowledgeable sharing lots of information we learnt a lot.castle is definitely worth a visit very interesting if you enjoy a bit of history.lovely promenade along the sea front with plenty of benches and areas to sit and enjoy the view depending on the weather of course.plenty of bars to enjoy a drink or two a few of them had live music on the Saturday night when we were there.you won’t be stuck for food at lunchtime lots of cafes we had a delicious hot dog from the food hut at the front next to the ferry terminal .unfortunately we were very disappointed by the lack of choice we had for dinner at night we googled restaurants in Rothesay before going and there seemed to be lots available but sadly this information was not up to date and a good few of these places are no longer open or are no longer serving food. We found that the few restaurants available that we would have chosen were already fully booked up in advance and also only open till about 8pm so be aware and book these places well in advance of your trip .we managed to get a seat at gather deli on the Friday evening they do a pizza and pasta deal at the weekends and it was excellent .we managed to get a table in ambiance on the Saturday which I had read good reviews online but the choices on the menu just were not to our taste I realise that’s a personal thing and the venue itself was lovely and friendly so do your research and book in advance so as not to be disappointed.have a look at Bute yard and see what’s happening there during your visit it’s a lovely venue with lots going on .that being said we still had a lovely weekend and would definetly visit Rothesay again.

So many thing to do.

So many thing to do. Loved the castle, museum, Victoria toilets. The gardens well worth a visit. Mount Stuart House worth a visit also. Only downside. There was a lack of restaurants open in the evening. We ate at The Glenburn Hotel which had stunning views. A bit on the expensive side but good enough. We had the use of a car but there seemed to be no shortage of buses.

Rothesay was the perfect base for exploring the Isle of Bute (the weather was glorious so we spent a chunk of time at Kilchattan Bay and Ettrick Bay). Plenty to offer in interesting places to eat (Takka Cafe/The Waterfront/Kettledrum Cafe). Lots of interesting shops to explore. Easy to get around on foot. Recommend a walk up the Serpentine Road to get a higher view point.

Rothesay is a bit worn, with quite a few decrepit buildings. The castle and museum are worth visiting but small. Restaurant choices are limited. The tourist bus around the island and Mount Stuart are both very good.

A good location for a relaxing short break.

A good location for a relaxing short break. Easy to get around the island with plenty of walks and beaches to explore. A visit to Mount Stuart House is most definitely worth visiting - set aside a morning or afternoon to fully explore the house and gardens. Would recommend booking dinner at a restaurant / hotel / bar in advance.

The harbour and the surrounding views were amazing, easy access to the island from two ferry locations. There is a scenic tour bus around the island with enjoyable commentary of the scenes, shore land and special points of interest as well as the main visitor attractions. Enjoyed the castle, which is a short walk from the museum, note the museum hours as mainly manned by volunteers. There is a Victorian fern garden which we missed not open on a Monday or Tuesday, looked really interesting when I googled it. Mount Stuart historic House and the estate is a must to see, allow at least 3 to 4 hours if you wish to see it all.

Fantastic little B & B. Very homely and friendly. Room clean and comfortable with everything I needed for a good night's sleep. Tea, coffee, milk, drinking chocolate and toiletries all supplied, including hair conditioner and hand/body lotion, which isn't provided in a lot of hotels. A very tasty, freshly cooked to order breakfast, plenty of choice of local produce on the menu.

The Glenburn hotel is a grand building with an imposing position in Rothesay, overlooking the water between Bute and the mainland. It exudes history and character, particularly in its wood-panelled dining rooms and bar. My room was nicely furnished and a good size. The inclusive breakfast buffet offered a great variety of cooked and cold options, including local fare.
