I received an upgrade, that was very nice of them. The room huge, vert clean and hot water in the shower. The bed was very comfortable. I had baked salmon for dinner, one one the best meals I’ve had on the trip…it was perfect..

The bathroom was large for a shepherds hut. The gluten free breakfast provided was amazing especially as we'd only requested it the day before our stay. There was plenty of parking. Also had great wi-fi.

We really appreciated all the extra goodies in the kitchen. Eggs, bread, butter, jam, fruit, cereal milk. Coffee and tea. Very kind of you. The house had everything we needed. We liked checking in and out with Alexa.

The ease of accessing the Lodge, the wonderful welcome gift, fresh baked bread beautifully presented, fresh eggs beautifully presented, so many thoughtful things from Jennie and her team, this just made our stay even better, the beds were so comfortable, the hot tub, everything was wonderful, the only thing was we couldn't stay longer, thank you to everyone who made our weekend so special.

We took a lovely walk from the Black Swan over fields to Smardale Dale and Viaduct. Lots of history as well as a nature reserve. Unfortunately very very muddy after torrential rain on our first day but we would like to go back and walk it again in the summer.

Ravenstonedale is a lovely little village.

Ravenstonedale is a lovely little village. There is another pub - kings head just metres away giving a different experience so if the black swan menu - which is exceptional but more "fine dining" -is not for you the Kings head is more pub grub and priced accordingly

We only stayed for one night as it was a stop over on the way home but what a lovely village! There are 2 pubs with rooms situated on the 2 becks running through the village. Pretty buildings and a church and 2 chapels to look at, would like to visit again.

The hotel was cosy and friendly on a cold wet evening.

The hotel was cosy and friendly on a cold wet evening. Being a Saturday evening when we arrived the car park was full but we managed to squeeze in to a space at the front. The hotel was busy but the bar and restaurant service was very good. We only booked a night stop but we will try to stay longer next time to explore the area. I think we had one of the smaller rooms which was adequate for a night stop but a bit cosy for a longer stay.

Great location for touring the Dales and Lake District, not much happening in the village but the Black Swan was exceptional, great ambience and superb food and The Cross Keys Temperance Inn an absolute must, what a welcome excellent pub food, delightful owners, we could have stayed all day.
