FAQs about hotels in Southampton

Historic Port of Walls

A departure point for Isle of Wight ferries and grand cruise liners including the Queen Mary 2, Southampton is understandably centered around its port. But even if you’re passing through, the city has more than enough to make you want to stay awhile. The Hythe Ferry from the port passes Netley, site of a ruined abbey, and ends at Hythe Pier, home to the world’s oldest pier train.

There is much older history in the city center where the 15th-century city walls are amongs the most complete in England. Also remaining is the medieval Bargate gatehouse.

Just behind is the Bargate Shopping Center, while main street stores in the city center and West Quay are other Southampton shopping choices. As for entertainment, the city has great theaters, and Oxford Street has the best bars and restaurants. All are easily reached from the apartments, B&Bs and hotels in Southampton available on Booking.com.

There is also a surprising amount of green space in the city and its central parks is a historic site. Slightly further out is Southampton Common, whose Urban Wildlife Centre is worth a visit.

If you’re flying out of Southampton Airport, don’t leave without having visited the Maritime Museum or Archaeology Museum, both detailing the history of this long-established city.

What Guests Said About Southampton:

Scored out of 10, guest rating 10

An underrated city that hides its light under a bushel.

An underrated city that hides its light under a bushel. Full of little gems that hide behind a fairly anonymous town centre - you have to go looking for them. Beautiful parks are a big highlight; lots of small museums and good restaurants/pubs. The old town walls are bizarrely hidden in loading yards and car parks, but worth seeking out if you like that sort of thing. Surrounding villages like Hamble, Bursledon and Bishops Waltham are worth visiting too, and the proximity to the New Forest, Winchester, the Isle of Wight and the South Downs make the location a big selling point too.

Very busy! I’m guessing a cruise ship had recently arrived…. The area where we were staying was very very noisy and very dirty but that’s just inner city living…there were however lots of great bars and restaurants literally a minutes walk from where we were staying. The new shopping centre was great..clean and accessible.

Most places of interest are within walking distance of hotel. Went to Aviation Museum which was OK. Unfortunately did not get to the Sea City Museum. Did day trips to Isle of Wight & a train to Portsmouth to the Dockyards & Naval Museums.

Good hub for getting to other places in England.

Good hub for getting to other places in England. Trains to everywhere are available; we went to London and back. We didn't get to do much in Southampton because of a heatwave in the mid 90's, but one free day in Southampton would be enough for us. I would have enjoyed walking the city wall.

We arrived a little before the 3pm check-in time but our room was available straight away. I had requested a quiet room if possible because my child is on the autistic spectrum and we were given a room in a very quiet part of the hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful and the room was exceptionally clean and comfortable. The hotel is in a convenient location for the city centre on the edge of the old town. I would definitely recommend this hotel to other travellers and would stay there if I was visiting Southampton again.

Cruisers Haven is the perfect place to stay in Southampton particularly if, like us, you are waiting to board your cruise ship. It's very comfortable, well laid out, and walking distance to the wharves as well as the city centre. We really loved being in the ancient part of town. Our host was friendly, knowledgeable and experienced at B&B. As we booked two nights he helped us plan a day trip to the Isle of Wight. Very happy we were able to stay.

Hotel is actually brilliant for the price. Bed was surprisingly comfy with plenty of pillows. Few detractors but the hotel was so cheap and in the centre of town, still would go there again.
