We had a wonderful stay at Burleigh Court, from the moment of arrival, with a lovely welcome, to the relaxed checkout when we alas had to leave! After arrival, we really enjoyed relaxing in the lovely atmosphere in the lounge, with a wide range of options in the well-stocked bar - including, hurrah!, a selection of Stroud Brewery beers! Then a delicious dinner in the 2-rosette restaurant, which exceeded our expectations - every single element was delicious and generous. With a wonderful wine selection, it felt very special. It is no wonder that the Burleigh Court restaurant has such a fabulous reputation in this part of Gloucestershire. And then a very restful night's sleep in our courtyard room. If it was slightly less damp weather we would have taken advantage of the sauna and plunge pool next to the room. And then up for a wonderful breakfast - beautiful locally-sourced products - fabulous sausage and bacon in particular - and a lovely selection of cereals, yoghurts and fruits - all served in the lovely dining room. And, most of all, the wonderful team. Everyone working at Burleigh Court has a wonderful manner - attentive but not OTT, and all committed to creating a lovely experience. We think that Burleigh Court is a wonderful place to stay and enjoy!

I paid for the continental breakfast and it was really good. The hotel provided big mugs and the coffee was excellent. There was also thick bread for toasting with a good selection of jams. The hotel also provided different cereals, fruit and buns. The location can't be beat, especially if you're arriving by train as it is right next to the train station. The room was spacious and reflected the feel of the town of Stroud. The bathroom was large, with a big bathtub and lots of light. I was able to open the window in my room too, which allowed for lots of fresh air into the room.

Kate was a fantastic host. She is warm and friendly, knowledgeable and helpful, and does everything to make the stay at Balcarres Guest House welcoming and comfortable. The house is lovely, and the rooms are beautifully decorated and spotless. The bed was super comfortable. Breakfast was delicious (Kate had even baked a fresh loaf of sourdough bread!). Stroud is a quaint, funky little village and Kate's location is ideal if you're hiking the Cotswolds Way.

It was so carefully and thoughtfully designed to be homely yet very stylish and funky. Lots of lovely details, good quality kitchen ware and beautiful artwork. I’d just love to live there! Location was also excellent. It’s wonderful to stay somewhere with live (not plastic) plants and the place felt cared for and loved by the owners.

Great "alternative" town, Peoples republic made me chuckle (and I bought a mug! Loads of independent shops and cafes if that's your thing. A trip to the Brewey is a must (it gets very busy) and The Ale hoise is a top pub (saw a great band there)Good location to visit Slad (laurie lee's birthplace and wher he now rests) and enjoyed the Woolpack Pub where there is memorabilia to the man.

Stroud is quite a workaday town with interesting former mills, some undergoing conversion, and mill owners' houses. We only spent one morning in the town itself as our stay was quite short. Don't expect an idyllic Cotswold stone town. Lots of buildings are Victorian redbrick. Quite a good centre for exploring this edge of the Cotswolds.

Lovely setting. Good transport links. Arrived quite late and left quite early so didn't have time to take in the delights of Stroud but definitely somewhere I would put on my list to visit again and spend more time there.

I loved the friendly atmosphere in the town, and both places we stayed were very clean and welcoming and good value for money. I loved how easy it was to travel to and from Bath for a visit, and I also loved exploring Stroud itself, with its independent shops. I particularly enjoyed and would recommend a visit to the café Le Papillon in the gorgeous nearby village of Painswick , where we had coffee and cake. I would like to spend longer in Stroud, and be there for the market and hopefully go to some of the musical and artistic events I saw advertised.

I enjoyed my stay st this property.

I enjoyed my stay st this property. The location was good and only 10 minutes from stroud station. Was clean and tidy. Some constructive criticism would be as follows A new clean rug in the living room. Black out blinds in the bedroom. A rubbish bin in the kitchen area for rubbish. A better shower. And most of all speak to the person who lives above this property to ask if, at night time and early morning they could avoid stomping around like and elephant as if the ceiling is coming down and preventing guests staying at this property from sleeping.

A magnificent setting, an idyllic location. The hotel is full of charm, both in the communal areas and the rooms. The garden is a great space, where the locals gather to socialise: a brilliant atmosphere! The staff deserve top marks; they were very attentive and always on hand to look after our needs. The food is also excellent, with a wide variety of perfectly cooked dishes. And the breakfast was absolutely brilliant! A stay we’d love to repeat.

Great hotel in an excellent location with stunning views. Plenty of trails to follow if you want to explore the area on foot (and see the cows!) and loads to see and do in neighbouring towns. All of the staff were really friendly and were very helpful. We had a minor issue with the plug in the bath when we arrived but this was fixed within a few hours of us notifying the front desk.

Perfect location for us being in the town centre, and beside the rail station - very well placed for train travel. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel has some parking, but there's very cheap parking over the railway line at Cheapside parking which is free 5 pm to 8 am anyway. Nice shower, and a comfortable bed (but see below).
