We loved the friendliness, hospitality and cooking of our host, Saruchi. The breakfast spread was exceptional, and we really loved having a shared guest kitchen, living room and garden. It was very cozy and comfortable!

Lovely property, we travelled with my elderly father and he had the accessibility room and slept really well in the main building and had no complaints. The staff were excellent, room lovely and clean, breakfast was a full English and eggs Benedict, both cooked perfectly.

You won't find a better location in the lake district, with not only a splendid view over Ullswater right from the hotel itself, but also fine walks nearby. The rooms are more luxurious than the exterior might suggest. They are extremely comfortable and beautifully appointed. The public areas of the hotel are filled with character and haven't been overly restored to please spoiled travelers. Overall, a place to return to happily.

Troutbeck was a really great central location to access many of the lakes & waterfalls in the surrounding area. From our property we visited, Castlerigg Stone Circle, Ullswater Lake (twice!), Buttermere Lake, Derwentwater Lake, Aira Force Waterfall, Stonethwaite Waterfall, Brougham Castle, Penrith Castle. Everything seemed a relatively short distance by car.

It's located just off the A66 at the upper midpoint of the North Lakes. Nearest town to the west is Keswick but if you prefer to go east then Penrith, Carlisle and Appleby are within easy reach. The Lake District is very dog-friendly but it has its limitations. For instance, restaurants in the towns won't be dog-friendly so expect to be limited to eating at pubs. This is great if you like trad English food but if you have a more adventurous palate then expect to be disappointed with the alternative menu choices. If Sunday roasts are your thing then you will be spoiled for choice. The scenery is almost like Scotland - in fact, it's like a mini-Scotland in some ways. Be prepared for for both brutal weather and stunning scenery. A sunny autumn day there, can be nothing short of magical to the senses. The mountain scenery along the A66 always invokes me tell Siri to play Physical Grafitti once I'm off the M6 and travelling westwards. It's almost like Zep wrote Kashmir as a soundscape for this part of the English landscape. Always, always take waterproofs for the top and bottom and don't be silly with the footwear. It's amazing how many visitors put their trust in a pair of expensive, but ultimately useless trainers.

Really nice location, handy for walks yet nice and quiet to relax as not in a busy town. Car park for guests too. The owners are lovely and friendly staff, really welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. We had an evening meal in the bar, the food was delicious. It was a cosy setting in the bar with the log fire. The rooms are clean and we had everything we needed. We look forward to our next trip soon and would stay here again.

There isn't really anything at Troutbeck apart from a couple of B+B's and the pub (with rooms). Its not a destination, but a great base for exploring the lake district without spending a fortune on accommodation.

It was our first stay in troutbeck which is ideally located for exploring the north lakes just 15mins from Keswick and derwent water without getting into the thick of the crowds. You can experience the beauty of the countryside but still be near to everything. Also 15mins to Aira force which we also visited which is always amazingly beautiful. In 15 mins you can also get to Ulswater where we tried to catch the sunrise. In Threlkeld which is not to far off we discovered a lovely off the road coffee shop Threlkeld coffee shop that made some excellent coffee and cakes and was great to stop by. We stayed at Lane Farm Country guest house which was an amazing stay with a lovely hostess. Would definately choose this location again.

We flew a light aircraft into a nearby airstrip, about 1.5 miles away, so we needed somewhere local to stay. It was pouring down after our evening meal at the Troutbeck Inn (also a mile and a half away), but Suruchi collected us. The plus points were: - .location - super friendly and helpful Suruchi - grate house with a communal living room/breakfast bar where you could brew up, make toast, etc. - if you want a great adventure get in touch with Roger at Lake District Gyroplanes to get a birds eye view of the Lakes

Powerful hot shower was excellent after a day on the hills. Also useful to have the Troutbeck Inn across the road for hearty suppers. Cooked breakfasts were good and set you up with protein for the day. Single room was a reasonable size (I've stayed in smaller in the Lakes!) and had useful kettle.
