The flat was comfortable in every way, it was peaceful and we slept well. The kitchen was well-equipped, the shower was powerful, the bedrooms were airy and beds very comfortable. We booked dinner twice in the Harbour Inn restaurant and the food was delicious, staff couldn't be more friendly and helpful. The flat is a short walk from the coastal path which takes you to Galloway House gardens and goes on through a lovely woodland to Cruggleton Castle.

Wow! What a gem of a place!

Wow! What a gem of a place! Being very compact, you don't need to travel around it much to take in the book stores. There are also some lovely charity shops and antique shops too. Everything is pretty much right on the main street. There are plenty of places to eat, serving wonderfully tasty food. We were there over a weekend, so we enjoyed the small but high quality Saturday market. Wigtown is very quiet and fantastic for going for gentle walks to see countryside (Lover's Walk) and the Solway. As a wheelchair user, these were easily accessible for me and my husband who pushes me. Do be aware that businesses aren't open late and many aren't open on Sundays. The nightlife is minimal, which suited us just fine. To us, this quite, laid back atmosphere added to our relaxing getaway. There was more to see than we thought and everyone was so friendly. We're looking forward to visiting again in the near future.

Wigtown friendly town with wealth of history through the ages ~ very interesting. Eating places very friendly. Parking easy. Pop up bar excellent and very different. Relaxing environment. Good base for travel around the area. AND FOR BOOK READERS.. so many book shops!! But there is so much more to Wigtown than just books....

Me and my friends all read a lot and we enjoyed the bookshops in Wigtown very much. We also visited Whithorn and a nature reserve outside Whithorn which we enjoyed very much. It was our first trip to Dumfries and Galloway, so was exploring it a bit. We all would like to come back again. We ate out in the middle of the day both days and had really good food. We were only there for 2 full days so couldn't see and do a lot, I do want to go back again to explore a lot more. And I would stay for longer.

To be honest, it wasn't just Wigtown, but many villages and...

To be honest, it wasn't just Wigtown, but many villages and towns throughout the area, that simply don't lend themselves to eating out in the evening. When you're self catering, AND you have access to a reasonable supermarket, it's probably less of a problem, but if you're in a B&B, you're at a disadvantage. It's easy to be complacent if you live in an urban town, but clearly footfall is more of a problem in Dumfries & Galloway, unlike the other tourist hotspots in Scotland. Some places don't even have a local pub, so forward planning is essential.

The book shops are great, we went on a Monday and not all shops or cafes were open. Would recommend the Cobweb café, friendly service and lovely food. Loved that we could park on the main street - easy to drop off the books we purchased before moving on to other shops.

Wigtown is a stunning location to explore Dumfries and Galloway. Beautiful village with a very good choice of shops, cafes and especially book shops. Lovely architecture and places of interest to easily walk from the village. Pretty community garden in the centre of the village. Vibrant community spirit with activities, services and events posted throughout the village. Although we did not use, there appeared to be a good bus service. The locals were very friendly and offered suggestions for walks and places to visit.

Lovely big house in secluded area, just a stone throw from Wigtown. We came for a weekend for a family birthday celebration and it was perfect for our needs. Plenty of room for everyone plus a lovely garden which the dogs enjoyed. Hot tub and sauna were a huge bonus. The house is great and felt really homely. It is a little tired in places but that really didn't matter to us as it was clean and well equipped. Hosts were very helpful and proactive. We absolutely loved our stay and there was talk of going back again. Thankyou Suzi x

Well modernised house with plenty of space for our family of four. The small, private garden was great for the kids to run about it and the bedrooms were comfortable and cosy. Parking was very convenient and everything you could possibly need was ready and available. Location wise, it's just on the edge on Wigtown, and the views over the bay are beautiful.

Great location in the heart of Wigtown. Spacious bedrooms. Great bathrooms. Appreciated the espresso machine and four Nespresso pods. Easy walk to the marvelous ReadingLasses bookshop and cafe with its great soup and range of home-baked cakes – also next door to the fish & chip shop which was handy!
