The hotel easily gets an A for Awesome! Once the pool/patio door opens one thing is made absolutely clear to the guest: a lot of love and care has been paid to this facility! Everything is in a beautiful order, nothing is left on luck. A very caring host, an amazing two-room apartment equipped with all a family or couple may need for spending a relaxing stay. Everything is clean, well taken care for, everything works ans everything is comfortable and cosy. The hotel is very close to the village centre which is teeming with local life in an easy going atmosphere. Tavernas, bars, local food shops, supermarkets...all you will ever need. And the village is surrounded by nature! Vineyards, pine forests, mountain hike paths. And the city of Heraklion is just 20 mins away. An ideal place to stay, overall. Cannot wait to visit again! A beautiful space overlooking the entire valley! George was helpful and provided a generous number of food items, wine and raki. He also responded quickly when we had questions. The kitchen was well-equipped and we cooked a few of our meals. It was a short walk into town. The view was tremendous.

Archanes is located right in the middle of nowhere.

Archanes is located right in the middle of nowhere. Okay, it's quite close to Heraklion and the Palace of Knossos. But if you want to go to the beaches, you have a choice between terribly crowded beaches around Heraklion, and God forbid, Malia... probably the most disgustingly overcrowded beach we've ever seen, or the beaches on the south of the island, which are accessible through winding mountain roads that can be quite challenging to navigate with a weak engine, like the Peugeot 108 we rented. The best option is the beaches to the west of Matala, which are a bit over an hour away via Road 97 through Heraklion, leading to Kommos Beach just west of Matala. Matala, although charming, is terribly crowded, while Kommos offers a wide expanse of pebbles with an incredible stereo effect: the sound of waves and the "singing" of cicadas. So you can spend a day at Kommos Beach, having quite a spacious area around you and only the sounds of nature, and in the evening, you can go to Matala for dinner, enjoying a charming but not as spectacular as the Polish Baltic Sea sunsets.

Archanes is a beautiful village not far from Iraklion.

Archanes is a beautiful village not far from Iraklion. It has great restaurants, beautiful scenery a well curated archaeological museum and many nearby attractions including Knossos. We stay here each time we come to Crete as it is a really relaxed Cretan village. It is accessible by car and bus from Iraklion. Narrow laneways and hilly terrain make it a walker’s dream location.

A lovely, split-level converted traditional building with lots of space and a sweet interior garden/patio area. Archanes is a great village with a lively square full of locals (nearly all men!) And the centre is an easy walk down the hill. There is a good choice of great value bars and restaurants - cheaper than the more touristsy towns. A good place to stay while visiting Knossos and Heraklion, without the crowds.

We stayed just one night at Carpe Diem Hotel, which feels like a new boutique-style property with only a few rooms. Like the whole village, the hotel is full of charm and the rooms are modern and feature a spacious bathroom. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is located on a quiet side street, yet very close to the center and not far from the public parking area.

Beautiful and comfortable property in the heart of Archanes, the location is exceptional. Michael the host were very attentive with us, waited for us on check in with Fresh fruits and a nice bottle of Raki, he showed us the entire property and how everything worked. A huge + for the terrace they have a place where you can chill and enjoy anytime.
