Joseph as a host was amazing. Friendly, gave us really good advice for our next trip. The view from the room was simply the best. Right at the beach, with a view of a nearby port. It was spacious with a big balcony with a place to hang your wet clothes from the beach. And there are two nearby! It was a steak for this price. Love it!

One night stay after walking the Samaria gorge so we didn't have to rush for the ferry. The accomodation is great, 2 balconies both with side view of the sea. Good air conditioning, really comfy beds. Great place to recover from the long walk. Athena was very welcoming and let us stay until 12.

We loved staying here! The family was so kind and friendly. Recently renovated rooms. Comfortable bed and blackout windows. Clean. We had three meals here - all were delicious. It was a great home base for hiking around the area. Gorgeous view!

The house is beautiful and very comfortable, with stunning and unique views from every window. It has a spacious yard, making parking very convenient if you’re traveling by car. The location is wonderfully peaceful and close to the starting point of the Samaria Gorge, which was perfect for our plans. We loved the warm welcome gifts, the tasteful decoration, the comfortable beds, and the incredible views — especially watching the stars from the roof at night. This is a fantastic place to spend your holidays, relax, explore the Samaria Gorge, and swim in the turquoise waters nearby.

I realize that Agia Roumeli exists mainly for the horde of...

I realize that Agia Roumeli exists mainly for the horde of trekkers which descends from the Samaria Gorge every afternoon. Once they all get on a ferry to their tour buses, the town quiets down and regains some of the "coastal village" character. It has a nice, long beach for the basking crowd, and cruising sailboats seemed to appear at irregular intervals. The anchorage is not really protected from other than a North wind, and a wise sailor would check with knowledgeable authorities. The town is a gem for relaxing and reading with option for an interesting walk partway UP the gorge. Prices are as expected in a tourist town, with no bargains and a few gougers. I would recommend Sweet Corner Masxali for a stay and a good traditional meal and a fair price. Paradise rooms provided a good room at a good rate, a short walk from the center and the bustle of hikers looking for souvenirs, meals etc.

Agia Roumeli, at the bottom of the Samaria Gorge, is bustling during the day with walkers who have completed the descent of the Samaria Gorge. After the last boat has departed, the village is a haven of peace and quiet (access is only by foot or boat; no cars except those owned by residents).

If you want to walk the Samarian Gorge, I would recommend starting and finishing at Agia Roumeli, a quiet, charming village, accessible only by sea. The beach is tough on the feet so reef shoes will help. The lower half of the Gorge is the nicest, and we enjoyed doing it twice, the first time early in the morning with no one else around. Cool in the shade and the Gates near the end are the best. We loved our stay at Calypso, with charming Andreas and his staff.

Unlike the north of the Crete coats, which is way too touristic, Agia Rouméli, was one of our favorite places to visit in Crete. Remote, with no roads. Only accessible by foot (8h tracking path) or Ferry. We rented a car and drove until Sougia (also a very nice village), and took the Ferry until Agia Rouméli. We were supposed to stay 1 night, but ended up booking 1 extra night, where we stayed in a room with a beatiful ocean view. It was the place where we have eaten the best food. Eveything is fresh, and the locals are friendly. It's a very quite place. Perfect to relax!

Great hotel, the Samaria, restaurant with views to the sea and mountains. Great place to stay for hikers, snorkelers, boat trips and people that want to relax. Agia Roumeli is easy to get around, but for more adventurous people you have the Samaria Gorge to test your walking stamina.

Don't bypass this place after Samaria, plan to spend 1-2...

Don't bypass this place after Samaria, plan to spend 1-2 nights here to walk the fantastic E4 to Agios Pavlos or simply to enjoy Agia Roumeli without all the tourists that are only there from 1-5pm. The beach both inside the village and the ones to the east are easily reachable by foot, while to the immediate west you don't want to miss Kalogeros (Monk) beach that requires a small boat trip or sup/canoe. The abandoned castle on top of the hill is challenging but the view is outstanding in all directions.

We visited in mid October and the hotel was quiet, very comfortable and the staff were attentive and helpful. We paid extra for a room overlooking the sea and it came with a small balcony which was well worthwhile. Breakfast was amazing. It was served in a lovely beach side restaurant and included yogurt & fruit, a cooked breakfast, pastries, fresh orange juice and coffee. This hotel was a highlight of our holiday. Thank you!

the owner was accommodating. i came to hike samaria gorge and booked 2 nights. unfortunately the gorge was closed due to weather conditions. the owner was understanding and allowed me to cancel my 2nd night without penalty. even gave me bottle of water for the ferry ride. i had luggage and they brought it up the stairs to my room.

Highly recommend! We stayed at the accommodation after the Samaria Gorge and we wished to be able to stay longer. The place is secluded, very quiet and clean. You get free sun beds and beach towels as well. The owners are super friendly and helpful and the food at the restaurant was 10/10!
