Stefan is the best host you can possibly have - if you appreciate exceptional thoughtfulness, hospitality, caring and local knowledge. He will always take care of your needs, and help you with anything. If you are wise enough to have Stefan guide you for boat tours and to take you snorkeling, you will have the best possible time. He is patient, knows the best times to go to different places, if possible will wait for other boats to leave so you have a more personal experience with the dolphins or the turtles, etc. Stefan’s family is lovely and will make you the best meals, always respecting your dietary choices. If you are very lucky Stefan might bring out his guitar after dinner.

this homestay was really really nice. the food 3x a day (7-9am, 12.30pm, 7.30pm) is soooo good. best food i had in indonesia, and different meals each time. Helmi and his wife and family are so nice. there's even a tofu restaurant small business in the front of the homestay, very cute. it's on the beach which is great, easy to rent snorkel gear (about 50k/day) and a motorbike (also about 100k/day). right next door to Blueshark diving, Dion and Jeffrey and the crew here are awesome. The snorkeling is also nice right at the reef at the property, just swim like 50-100m out (takes 5 mins). Amazing sunsets. Room is simple. A bit hot in the mornings. There's free coffee/water/tea. Bathroom is simple, just 1 bathroom shared with 3 rooms. i hope to stay again!

If you read previous reviews you will see that the staff, food and location are highly rated, as they should be. Everyone is special to the staff. This was my first time in a Homestay and they made me feel welcomed and comfortable from the moment I arrived. Marta and Mama Mhey served wonderful meals with proteins, carbs, veggies and fruits. Honestly, some of the best meals I had during my time in Indonesia. I went on fishing and snorkeling trips with the owner, Franz. He really knows his stuff. He put us on fish and turtles and some really remarkable locations. And, although I did not go diving myself this time, he did organize a dive trip for other guests. There are many Homestays on this island, but you should seriously consider this location if you want an outstanding experience and value for your money.

The Queens Villa is the pearl of North Sulawesi ! I’ll start with the food. You don’t eat at Queens Villa, you dine. The food is prepared from start to presentation by master chefs. They take great care and pride in their work and will always visit your table to be sure everything is excellent. They even take notice of what you don’t eat so they know what you like. Meals are served around the three tiered pool that is crisp and clean and no chlorine ! A beautiful water falls with soft lighting brings a soothing atmosphere. The property is always occupied by many artist always making wonder wood works, fountains and flora that feels like the garden of Eden. Dinners and evening are a great mix of international artist and travelers sometimes great conversations sometimes musicians playing guitars and drums, flutes and on occasion Karaoke singing! They have a complete network of drivers, guide and business people all around Sulawesi. If you don’t want to carry cash around the village and boats and on tours you can just tell them your hotel and they will send the bill to Medi and Julieanna. They can arrange any kind of tours and excursion tailored to your likes, so you don’t need to pay for packaged tours that you don’t want and at a great price. They are the only ATM on the island at this time which is really convenient. And the most important part for me is the dive shop. Local guides with eagle eyes and fantastic skills!!! Again, very wonderful prices and equipment. Indonesia in my opinion is the greatest dive sites on our planet right now and Bunaken is right up there with Raja Ampat and their reefs and dive sites are just minutes away on a boat. And for turtle lovers, this is by far the turtle haven of our planet bar none!!! My favorite by far!!!!!

An incredible piece of heaven on earth - so glad we made the effort to travel to North Sulawesi to see what the undersea world should look like. Truly paradise and a must visit experience for anyone who loves snorkeling and scuba diving.

Bunaken is a small island 15 min away by boat from Manado.

Bunaken is a small island 15 min away by boat from Manado. There is not much to do, except hang on the beach or the pool, snorkel or dive. The diving is phenomenal, so much marine life, very well preserved, and the resort we stayed in, PS Bunaken, arranges all the dives and it was a 10/10 service. There are not many western food option on the island, and no grocery stores, only really small tends that sell some good, so If you like certain types of food, bring your own. I ended up going back to Manado one day to get canned tuna, granola and yogurt, for example. Everyone in the village is super friendly.

I was in Bunaken for 2 weeks total for the scuba diving (...

I was in Bunaken for 2 weeks total for the scuba diving (sooo many giant turtles) and snorkelling, both of which were excellent. That said, i was deeply saddened by the amount of garbage on the beach and in the water. I am not sure how Indonesia can call this a national marine park when there seems to be no effort to preserve it. No cars - could be such a pretty little place if there was maybe a holistic plan for the island as a whole.

A resort near a very quiet mixed Moslem/Christian village...

A resort near a very quiet mixed Moslem/Christian village with lots of absolutely delightful children and a couple of nice restaurants. Perfect for me because I just wanted to rest after a lot of travelling. Best thing was my cabin right by the sea and a lovely house reef just 50 yards offshore. No need for a boat. Saw turtles, local type of stingray and puffer fish. Also dive annd snorkelling boats from the resort if you want then. And they DO love their Karaoke in the village but not intrusive. Lots of romantic Bee Gees and Frank Sinatra.

Villa Queen’s made our Bunaken trip extraordinary.

Villa Queen’s made our Bunaken trip extraordinary. Though we stayed in the Homestay, it felt like a four-star resort thanks to cozy memory foam beds, air conditioning, and a stylish bathroom. Power and internet never failed, which was impressive given the island’s frequent outages—Starlink made working online effortless. We loved having access to multiple pools, a gym, and special experiences like carving lessons. Excursions took us from dolphin tours to cultural sites, and the diving team helped both beginners and certified divers feel at ease in the water. The food blew us away—fresh, flavorful, and farm-to-table quality. It’s the perfect mix of comfort, adventure, and authentic local flavor.

The owners and all the staff were not only attentive and considerate but also extremely responsible, making sure everything ran smoothly and providing a really homely feeling which was perfect for me and the new friends I made at meals and on the dive boat. Speaking of diving, the sites at Bunaken are not to be missed, though currents were quite challenging on some of our dives. I was glad to be in the capable hands of resident dive master Jerry.

After spending already two weeks in indonesia we had our best time at Heiner Homestay with Ope, Olga and their lovely kids. They not only served us delicious food, they also helped us with guidance and information about activities. Snorcheling and dolphin tour with Ope was an incredible experience. Also the WLAN works very well. We really felt at home and welcome in their homestay next to the beach. Thank you so much!!

We were travelling for 4 weeks in Sulawesi and this was our best accommodation! Very clean bungalow, fantastic food and extremely helpful stuff. The snorkeling from the beach is very nice! We saw healthy corals, plenty of fish and turtels. We can recommend to stay at this place! Thanks to Olivia and her team :-)

Food was excellent and varied. Location was perfect for best snorkelling spot on Bunaken. Hosts Vera and Gehard are a kind and hard-working Indonesian couple who were very attentive and did their utmost to make our stay enjoyable. Nice, natural private setting with a garden.

Amazing reef right out front: great corals, fish, turtles and reef sharks when snorkelling at your doorstep. Diving is run very professionally and the nice village is just a short stroll away.
