It’s cozy and right in front of the beach. They have a restaurant with drinks and a decent menu with some specials, which luckily for us was lobster when we arrived. Big, fat, fresh lobster. Staff is kind and the rooms are super comfortable and well designed.

I gotta be honest with you, this is a place where you will make lasting memories. We usually forget the average experiences. This one is special. You must take it easy and look at it as fun and funny. It's imperative! The staff is nonchalant and with a live and let live kinda vibe. They let me check in at 10am, no questions asked, top notch service and all without ever looking up from their phones. The room itself was it's own adventure. For me as a 1-star hotel passionate, the nail that failed to hold the window shut, added an amusing detail, the musty smell and stained walls vibed with the whole affair perfectly, so it felt like a perfect fit for me. Ngl, the bed was comfy enough and the sheets clean. The blanket was only about 30cm short to cover the whole length of my 180cm but that didn't matter as the aircon just pretended to be working but actually did squat, so there wasn't any need for a long blanket. Other than one single deceased cockroach there weren't any pests except for the occasional curious mosquito. Didn't bite though. When I stay at a room with one single light bulb hanging from the ceiling, I know I am in the right place. This place even had two! Cold light, of course. The bathroom sported a toilet, a sink and a shower. No exaggeration. Minimalism at its finest. No toilet paper, no towel, no soap. Bring your own or, like me, wait until dry. Mind you, this review is not sarcastic in any way. Other than the place is a bit pricey, I found myself chuckling continually and I will never forget this place. The absurdity, I loved it! It's like it's so bad, it's great in its own special way. I would honestly stay there again. If you expect western standards in rural Indonesia, you might be in for a surprise. Don't we travel to exit our comfort zones? Aren't we trying to collect memories? This will here serve you just right. The lady in the cafe/restaurant is lovely and makes a rad nasi goreng.

There are many personalities to this beach whose fine sands are forever simutaeneously sculpted by both the outgoing river interacting with the seashore and tides. The bungalows are charming both in style and function, with good AC and hot water. Well-rounded, tasty and healthy farm breakfast to fresh grilled fish dinners in an environment that reminds me of being in a tropical farmland adjacent to wilderness open oceans alive with abundance. To top it all off, the friendly and family-style hospitality is 2nd to none. with the owner providing genuine empathy, local authenticity, and an understanding of tourism and transportation logistics in these remote lands.

My partner and I had the most wonderful 4 nights at Sumba Retreat right on Kerewe Beach. Firstly, we were so grateful to of been upgraded to the amazing bungalow right by the beach and it was so spacious, clean, comfortable and relaxing. Loved the outdoor bathroom! The staff here are some of the kindest people we met in Indonesia and always were smiling and happy to help. The location is divine too, right on the beach with a few other hotels around. The water buffalo and horses walk along the beach at certain times too. We spent a lot of time just chilling out here, but you can also walk or ride a bike to some nearby beaches. They also help to organise drivers for day trips - we loved stopping by the Weekuri Lagoon right after we were picked up from the airport. My partner also got a boat out to go surfing a few times. We definitely could've stayed here longer. Such a magical place!

We really enjoyed our stay at Morika Villa. The view here is absolutely spectacular, especially during sunrise! The rooms are spacious and comfortable, with large bathrooms and a shared kitchen. What stood out most was the staff. Everyone was super friendly and helpful, always happy to assist with anything like renting a bike or organizing tours. The food at the restaurant was also good, with a variety of dishes to choose from.

Different place, different experience.

Different place, different experience. Not every place is a big smoke. One need to have an open mind. Waikabubak is for ( for us ) relaxing and enjoying nature. Love the mountains and forests all the way. And The Beautiful Ocean.I love not having TV for 4 days. I just watch the superb waves from our villas verandah at ThreeQueen Villas.

Waikabubak as a town is a non-descript typical provincial Indo town, with little accommodation and only one decent restaurant (great prices, great local food, cold Bintangs at D'SUmba Ate Waikabubak). There are few homestays and poor hotels. There are a couple of interesting Art Shops selling genuine antiques and local artifacts. There is one tourist shop selling local ikats mainly but at vastly inflated prices. The good things are all the traditional villages usually perched on local hilltops, including the touristy Prai Ijing (most of the houses now replaced by traditional LOOKING concrete rumah adats, only 1 year ago most were wooden structures) and then some great real untouristy places (e.g. prairame, kampung tarung). Also good access to waterfalls Lapopu and Matayangu. I wouldnt stay here for the town intself (in fact I would avoid it for that reason), but it is a great jumping off point for nearby attractions.

Go to Kampung Tarung, best ancestral village experience in Indonesia. Way WAY better than Rattenggaro! Authentic, free, no one is pushy about the stuff they sell, and you feel welcomed. Biggest highlight of Waikabubak!
