Aurora House B&B is set in the countryside just a few minutes drive from Athy. The property is clean, bright, modern and homely, the rooms are lovely and the beds are really comfy (the most important part!). Teresa is a wonderful host and the cooked breakfast is 5 star. Would definitely recommend this little gem of a B&B.

I highly recommend this place as a place to stay. Located southwest of Dublin about a 60-minute drive, its location allowed us to take day trips to almost the entire country. Going north into Northern Ireland made for a 12 hour day, but was easily doable.. The owners, John and Delores, are next door. They are very friendly and have two dogs that are absolutely attention hounds. Bella, the larger one is a hoot. The cottage has two bedrooms that allow for better privacy. We watched a couple of fox play in the field.. Lots of birds provided music to drink coffee and watch the sunrise or sunset on the little patio. Little snacks were provided along with some potatoes from the owners. You have a selection of places to shop. I recommend shopping at Pettitt's suoer value for groceries qq+q+qq+and Conlons Family 7

Our main reason for visiting was to go to the museum. Quaint town which has obviously suffered a loss of residents over time with empty shops. Ate at the Shebeen Hotel recommended by our accommodation

Definitely stop in at the Auld Shebeen, the liveliness is amazing and the food was absolutely delicious. #1 bakery was delicious and the owner was a delight! She also owns the pub next door which was lovely (and the Auld Shebeen). Bradbury's offers a lovely and reasonable breakfast.

I know Athy as my Dad grew up there.

I know Athy as my Dad grew up there. It's a town that has a good heart & some excellent services but the street scape needs improvement. A lot of investment in the museun so hope it is justified in the long term. There is a nice market & adds interest to the town. Hopefully it will remaim & not be moved on by the local authority as has been the case elsewhere. These offerings are vital to keep public spaces at the heart of community.

It's perfect for a day with Family - i definitely recommend the boat ride, which can take 1hour or privately 1,2 or 3 hours. Great for walks/ runs along the river. Playground for kids and park just next to the train station. I had a choice to go to Dublin in the morning with my7 year old to spend time there until the evening (travel back home) or stay in Athy - stayed in Athy and had a great time, the more that my hotel (Market House B&B) kindly agreed for us to keep suitcases in the room so we had 'hands free'. The museum was not open yet but once it will be open it adds another attraction to the visit.

The house was very confortable and the hosts kind and helpful. We stayed there on a longer trip but we didn't visit Athy except for St Michael's Church in Barrowhouse (less than a km from the house). From there we went to the Wicklow Mountains and Glendalough in less than an hour, that's why we chose Athy for a night's sleep on our way. Our hosts made us wish to stay longer and get acquainted with them and their ponies, something our children would have gladly done.

Athy seems to be suffering from the amount of traffic flow through the high street...possible cause of the dereliction? A lot of shops and houses boarded up which did not make the town feel very safe although it did make an interesting photo opportunity More traffic on the canal would help reduce the smell as using the locks would move the water When the new by pass opens it should help remove the large number of lorries

Location was beautiful, wonderful patio and garden. Athy is only a short drive or taxi journey. Michael is an extraordinary host, great stories and lots of information on the area. And so kind..gave us a lift to wedding we were attending, made porridge bread (delicious) for us and sent us off after a great weekend with flowers from his garden and lots of homegrown veggies. A great character, Michael is what makes Willsgrove House.

A truly warm and genuine welcome from Raymond and Mary who made us feel home from home. This property will delight all historians, and those who appreciate a character property will not be disappointed. It is a few minutes from Athy, a quaint and typical town with gorgeous riverside walks. The grounds are spacious and quiet, well manicured and lush.
