FAQs about hotels in Cork

Irish Spirit In A Nutshell

Situated on the banks of the River Lee, Cork’s city center was originally built on marshes and many of its popular streets are constructed on the former river channels. With a thriving nightlife and a vibrant cultural scene, the Irish Republic’s second biggest city is full of surprises.

Those interested in history should pay a visit to the Cork City Gaol, an old prison transformed into one of the city’s most fascinating attractions, or join the Cork Historic Walking Tours, which have a great opportunity to learn all the city’s secrets.

For those craving more lively entertainment, the city has the famous Cork City Pub Crawl or even more exciting, the Barrack Street Challenge, where participants drink pints of beer in all bars along Barrack Street.

The shopping area is concentrated around the most famous street - St. Patrick Street. For local food specialities like crubeens, tripe and drisheen, browse bars and restaurants around MacCurtain, Washington and Oliver Plunkett Streets.

When flying to Cork Airport, you’re just a short taxi or bus ride from the lively city centre. Don’t worry about accommodations; Booking.com has plenty from convenient hotels, to cozy guesthouses and bed & breakfasts.

The city itself was not quite as I expected but very enjoyable to explore, very clean with plenty of options for eating and drinking, coffee or alcohol. We used a place called Marina Market a couple of times, open all day everyday with loads of choices.

The people of Ireland did not have nice things to say about Cork, and they were correct. The hotel did not have AC, and we were there during a heat wave, making sleeping impossible. My wife went to a convenience store near the hotel, and it was robbed while she was there. The pubs were great, and the hotel staff was very nice, helpful, welcoming and fun, but that didn't offset the accommodations.

We went to a Concert at love at the Marquee.

We went to a Concert at love at the Marquee. Which isa great venue. Around Cork we visited the English Market and the Marina Market both great places for food. We took a trip on the open top bus and stopped at the jail which was really interesting and well worth it. We will be definitely keeping an eye as to who is performing at the Marquee in the future so we can go back to this great city.

Cork is vibrant and a city easy to walk around. Lots of eating places and pubs to visit. If you hire a car, check that your accommodation has car parking facilities or you may need to find a secure car park further away and pay car parking fees.

Beautiful old-world hotel in a fantastic location in the city centre. The staff we encountered were great, especially Harun at breakfast. He deserves a special mention due to his kindness of manner and attention to detail, a very genuine person who brings a gentle touch to hospitality. Breakfast was very good and in a lovely setting. The newly refurbished bar is a comfortable and stylish spot. The Douglass lounge is a great addition to the hotel.

Hotel is dated, and the lifts quite small, using staircase as alternative was awkward as stairs went to the 3rd floor only unless you went to the back staircase from the first floor. Central location meant an easy walk into the city centre, bar was good as was the breakfast. Beds and duvet extremely comfortable.

Very friendly staff, fantastic location, beautifully decorated for Christmas (the natural waterfall/cliff-face at the rear of the hotel looked amazing - yes, a city centre cliff-face!), good breakfast, lovely cosy reception area, great artwork everywhere, simple but spotless rooms.
